All is not well at Erskine College and Seminary, but things can be made well.
These were two of the three points new Erskine President David Norman made to a group of at least 100 people Sunday morning at the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia.
As part of the church’s Thornwell Lecture series, it was the first public speech for Norman, who became the 15th president of Erskine July 1.
Gordon Query, former moderator of the General Synod of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and former board of trustees member, introduced Norman.
“This is a young man, but only by his number of years and appearance is he young,” he said. “In those areas that really matter in life – the extent of wisdom, for instance, his faith, his commitment to Christ – he measures well beyond his years.”
From the brief time he has known Norman and from what others have said, Query said Norman is an “humble servant of the Lord and Jesus Christ.”
“How does a man get from growing up in the Macon, Ga., area, to Edinburgh, Scotland, to Dallas, Texas, and then wind up here on the steps of Erskine College and Seminary in Due West, S.C.?” Query asked.
