Mel: “She is now in Heaven. I’m sorry for this horrible news. She fell yesterday and her artificial knee twisted and cut a vein. She simply lost too much blood to recover. Please pray for me, three kids and two grand kids and a huge extended family.”
Cindie Pike, serving with her husband Teaching Elder Mel Pike with the PCA’s Mission to the World (MTW) in Kherson, Ukraine, died after a fall in December 31, 2012. As reported by a colleague, Cindie “fell today and her artificial knee joint failed and destroyed part of her femur. She lost a lot of blood before the ambulance came.” She was taken to ICU and plans were being made to evacuate her out of the country to receive the urgent care she needed.
On January 1, 2013, Mel posted this on Cindie’s Facebook page, “This is Mel, Cindie’s husband, writing on her behalf. She is now in Heaven. I’m sorry for this horrible news. She fell yesterday and her artificial knee twisted and cut a vein. She simply lost too much blood to recover. Please pray for me, three kids and two grand kids and a huge extended family.”
Mel Pike, a member of Rocky Mountain Presbytery of the PCA, and Cindie have been serving with MTW for over 14 years.
Clay Quarterman, a fellow missionary in Ukraine, wrote the following:
We are in shock. A very sad New Year’s morning. Our missionary colleague and friend Cindie Pike just passed into glory. She died in Kherson, Ukraine, from blood loss and shock after a serious fall on the sidewalk. Plans are unclear, but we hope to join her husband Mel and family for the funeral in Colorado in a few days. Pray for them and our church and team in Ukraine, as this is totally unexpected. God’s ways are deep, and the waters are cold, but Cindie’s hope of the Resurrection was always clear – even more so now. “I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I’ve committed unto Him against that Day.” (2 Tim 1:12)
