Over the last 20-some years while Presbyterians were busy arguing for and against the alternative lifestyle, a nonbiblical and nonconfessional lifestyle in heterosexual marriage has drastically increased and permeated the PCUSA.
In response to the News of Note concerning Planning for National Marriage Week, I would like to express my hope that the events will be a reveille for evangelical Presbyterians to obey faithfully the teachings of the Bible on marital matters.
The proponents of (changes to the PCUSA Book of Order) G-6.0106b are losing Biblical ground to oppose homosexual activities, considering more evangelicals, rather than liberals, practice remarriage after divorce. If same-sex marriage is in violation of the Scripture, so is remarriage of the divorced.
The following observation of mine, which was published in Monday Morning: The Magazine for Presbyterian Leaders (June 1998, Vol. 63, No. 11), shows how far the proponents of G-6.0106b are off the Biblical base.
Selective inconsistency
The majority has spoken and spoken loudly indeed. The Presbyterian Church (USA) has reaffirmed its refusal to ordain to the offices of the church unrepentant practicing fornicators and some adulterers, to use Biblical terms.
Over the last 20-some years while Presbyterians were busy arguing for and against the alternative lifestyle, a nonbiblical and nonconfessional lifestyle in heterosexual marriage has drastically increased and permeated the PCUSA…
G-6.0106b is added to the Book of Order to mandate a life worthy of ordained church officers in order to keep, among other things, the purity of the church in the midst of the moral confusion of our day.
