Marianne McCravey Morse Called Home to Glory

She served beside her husband, Dan Morse, in his various churches and ministries, including in the PCA, Reformed Episcopal Church, and Reformed Theological Seminary.

Written by Staff | Monday, December 14, 2015

She served beside her husband in his ministry as a pastor in Presbyterian churches in Georgia, Pennsylvania, California, and Tennessee, and as a professor in the Old Testament Department at Reformed Theological Seminary, Jackson, Mississippi. She and Dan deeply loved, cared for, and served one another. Marianne was the devoted mother of four children and grandmother of nine.

Marianne McCravey Morse, 71, wife of the Rt. Rev. Daniel R. Morse, died in Nashville, Tennessee, on Sunday, December 13. Marianne was born in Atlanta Georgia, and grew up in Forest, Mississippi, where her family were members of Forest Presbyterian Church. She attended Belhaven College, majoring in English Literature and graduating in 1966 with a B.A. degree.

She found great fulfillment, happiness, and usefulness as a member of the Reformed Episcopal Church. Episcopal worship was familiar to her as her mother, who was an Episcopalian before marriage, continued throughout her life to love the Book of Common Prayer. When her husband became a Bishop of the Reformed Episcopal Church she became a great encourager of the parishes and the clergy and their wives.

Her obituary captures well the life of a godly woman: “Marianne lived her life with purpose and was an active member of the Reformed Episcopal Church with a special love for the creation of new missions far and wide. She traveled extensively with her husband and children and cared greatly for the world outside her own. With a quiet manner, she impacted family, friends and strangers with her strength, warmth, loyalty, and great sense of humor. She was, in every possible way, a true lady who fought her disease with bravery and courage, and even to the very last, submitted to God’s will with dignity and faith in her future.”

Marianne was a person of beauty outwardly and inwardly. She had that rare combination of the simultaneously strong and quiet spirit. Her lively faith in Christ was expressed in a life of gracious good works. Now she rests with the Lord’s people in the presence of the Savior awaiting the yet more glorious day of resurrection to eternal life at the last day.

The funeral service with Holy Communion will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church with the Most Reverend Royal U. Grote officiating. Inurnment will immediately follow on-site as well as a reception in the parish hall. St. Bartholomew’s is located at 4800 Belmont Park Terrace, Nashville, TN 37215.
