The Smiths were married on June 30, 1944, and upon moving to Jackson, MS, Mrs. Smith graduated from Belhaven University in 1948. She also worked from 1978 to 1986 for the Office of the Stated Clerk of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), and she will be remembered as a loving mother, wife, homemaker, and friend.
Brevard, NC – Lois Virginia Knopf Smith, 93, of Brevard, N. C., wife of the late Dr. Morton Howison Smith, who recently predeceased his wife on November 12, 2017, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 29, 2018.
Daughter of the late Theodore and Edith Knopf, she was born on July 7, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan. Beginning at age five, she studied piano, majoring in Music (Piano Performance) at the University of Michigan from 1943 to 1947 under a professor who trained her to be a concert pianist. She also loved to sing, and was a gifted vocalist, taking a second major in Voice Performance.

Throughout her life, she was a faithful member of local congregations of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), the latest of which was Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Brevard, NC, pastored by Rev. Dr. H. Andrew Silman.
She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Rochet Margaret Smith Bowers, son Samuel Warfield Smith, granddaughter Sarah Merritt (Brad), grandson Benjamin Warfield Smith (Amanda), and great-grandchildren Gage, Autumn, and Daniel Smith. Along with her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Carl Knopf.
A funeral service were held on February 1, 2018 at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church (PCA), in Brevard, N. C. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, PO Box 690, Taylors, SC 29687 (www.gpts.edu/donate).
