L.A. County Evicts John MacArthur’s Grace Church From Parking Lot Lease Held Since 1975

Los Angeles County lost in its legal attempts to prevent John MacArthur and Grace Community Church from meeting for indoor services, so county officials retaliated against the church.

Since 1975, Grace Community has leased a large portion of its parking lot from the county. For unspecified reasons, the county’s Public Works Department has given the church until October 1st to evacuate the lot. All items that remain in the parking lot at that time will be taken as county property.

After Los Angeles County’s latest courtroom defeat in their ongoing attempt to prevent Pastor John MacArthur and his Grace Community Church from meeting for indoor services, county officials have retaliated against the church by issuing a 30-day termination notice for Grace’s parking lot lease.

Since 1975, Grace Community has leased a large portion of its parking lot from the county. For unspecified reasons, the county’s Public Works Department has given the church until October 1st to evacuate the lot. All items that remain in the parking lot at that time will be taken as county property.

Jenna Ellis, one of the attorneys from Thomas More Society that is representing Grace Community, called the county’s actions an obvious a case of retaliation.

“Los Angeles County is retaliating against Grace Community Church for simply exercising their constitutionally protected right to hold church and challenging an unreasonable, unlawful health order. In America, we have a judicial system to ensure that the executive branch does not abuse its power, and Grace Community Church has every right to be heard without fear of reprisal,” she said in a statement.
