The building seats 2,100 people total (1,700 in the sanctuary and 400 in the chapel) and has a private school for grades K-2, plus a child-care center.
With songs, prayers and well wishes from the community, Korean Central Presbyterian Church dedicated its new place of worship, Sunday evening, in Centreville, Virginia
It took 15 months for KCPC to get Fairfax County’s approval to build a place of worship in Centreville. But it got the OK in April 2006 and broke ground in July 2007. With 4,500 members, KCPC had outgrown its former building in Vienna.
On Sunday, Oct. 3, local residents and area dignitaries helped the members officially dedicate their building.
The Rev. Jung Hyun Oh, of Sarang Community Church in Korea — which receives 45,000 worshippers each Sunday — was among the honored guests.
“The head of this church is Jesus Christ,” he told the congregation. “We’re indebted to the missionaries from America who came to Korea…”
Congratulations came from U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-11); Republican Tom Davis, who formerly held that position; Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova and Supervisor Michael R. Frey (R-Sully).
Davis said he’s had a long affiliation with KCPC, dating from when he was the county supervisor representing its district in Vienna, and he’s seen how it’s “transformed thousands of lives.” Said Davis: “America is a nation of immigrants. You have enriched this country, and this beautiful church is a blessing to [it].”
Next, monetary “Gifts of Love” were presented to Centreville Fire Stations 17 and 38, the Sully District Police Station, Bull Run Elementary, Western Fairfax Christian Ministries, Cub Run Primitive Baptist Church, and the memorial scholarship funds of Virginia Tech victims Reema Samaha and Erin Peterson.
“Thank you to every one of you who put your hearts into this construction project in Centreville,” said Pastor Danny C. Ro. “God is truly great and amazing, and the church wants to do good deeds and bring blessings to the world.”
