KnockTV is an emerging leader in a new category of Christian television. This new Internet television network will make SURRENDER THE SECRET available on computers, mobile and handheld devices, on-demand (24 hours a day – 7 days a week) once an episode is released on the network’s website.
On November 8, 2012 KnockTV, LLC announced the co-production of a new groundbreaking Christian reality television series following five women who tell their stories about having abortions in their past, and take a healing journey together. It was announced jointly by KnockTV’s President and CEO, Geoffrey Rogers, and Emmy Award-winning Producer and Owner of Tentmakers Entertainment, Cecil Stokes, whose latest project was the feature film October Baby.
The 10-episode series, titled SURRENDER THE SECRET, lives up to its name, as these five women surrender their deepest, darkest secrets, and admit to aborting a past pregnancy. Each episode is unique because of the different exercises they complete in a bible study written specifically for women who have had an abortion. The women form a tight bond and embrace each other as they go on this journey together. They share their abortion stories, work through anger, receive forgiveness, and allow God’s love to set them free from the bondages of their past decisions.
It is not too often that a new television series is created which breaks new ground, and has the ability to move the landscape of culture. SURRENDER THE SECRET is recognized as potentially having this level of impact. The power of this first-of-a-kind Christian reality TV series will be deeply felt by viewers of all kinds. Regardless of whether or not the viewer has had an abortion in their past, the emotional connection to be made with the five women on this journey will be undeniable.
In January 2007 the church that KnockTV founders, Geoffrey & Kerri Rogers, were attending celebrated Sanctity of Human Life. This was the first time that they heard the statistics of the number of abortions in their local county that year (8,000). Although the statistics were given in truth about abortion and the babies, the delivery felt judgmental and condemning because it was insensitive to women who had abortions. The presentation seemed to be missing the love and forgiveness available for the women who had committed the sin. If over 50,000,000 babies had been aborted in the U.S since 1973, that meant there were a lot of women who had those abortions, and they were never mentioned. At that point, she heard the Lord ask her “What are you doing about it?”
Not knowing what to do, Kerri called a local pregnancy center and part of the training was to go through their post-abortion recovery bible study, Surrendering the Secret, written by Pat Layton. This changed Kerri’s life, and in time she too began to lead the bible study for other women. It wasn’t until 2011 that the business background in Geoff’s career merged with Kerri’s passion to help post-abortive women.
As the Rogers began to develop the plans for the launch of KnockTV, the idea for a reality TV show following post-abortive women through the bible study surfaced. God then worked in tremendous ways to bring in Cecil Stokes, who had just produced October Baby, and the group of women who were willing to be filmed as they went through the bible study.
KnockTV has already partnered with Heartbeat International (for use of their Option Line), Concepts of Truth (for use of their National Helpline for Abortion Recovery), and Life Impact Network (for use of the Surrendering the Secret bible study, authored by Pat Layton and published by Lifeway Press). A National Partners Program has just been finalized, with pro-life and Christian organizations across the country engaging into the program to help with the grassroots publicity effort, spreading the word about this groundbreaking show.
Production is now completed, with the episodes being finalized over the next several months. The series will premiere on KnockTV on January 22, 2013, the 40th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, the landmark decision by the U.S. Supreme Court which legalized abortion in 1973. KnockTV is an emerging leader in a new category of Christian television. This new Internet television network will make SURRENDER THE SECRET available on computers, mobile and handheld devices, on-demand (24 hours a day – 7 days a week) once an episode is released on the network’s website (www.KnockTV.com/SurrenderTheSecret). Given the sensitivity of the show’s content, this type of availability will be tremendous for those who may want to watch in private and on their own time.
It is only fitting that on the 40th anniversary of this decision by the US Supreme Court to legalize abortion, that a show is released which shows the effects that abortion has on women, and that there is healing available to those suffering from their decision to abort their child.
Stokes said: “Following the success of the feature film October Baby, my eyes were opened to the multitude of women around the country who had buried the secret of abortion deep inside. Audiences flocked to us wanting to share their stories, many for the first time. These women needed a voice and SURRENDER THE SECRET gives them that voice. “
Rogers said: “With 43% of women of childbearing age in the U.S. having had an abortion, SURRENDER THE SECRET will be a show of great interest. For the first time, women who have had an abortion and thought it was the right choice at that time, express the long-term effects of their decision and how it hurt them.”
