His mother was a lesbian and had lived with two different partners during his life. Yet he sobbed as he told me, “I just want a dad.”
You learn the oddest things while standing in line at the grocery store. For example, Jennifer Aniston, former Friend and well-known serial bad (really bad) dater, is in a knock-down, he-said/ she-said culture war with Fox mega-commentator, Bill O’Reilly.
According to almost all publications, she plays the young, liberal, non-judgmental voice of reason, while he is the old codger who’s so out of touch that he still believes in traditional marriage.
No doubt the 41-year-old screen star is loving it since her new movie, The Switch, is at the heart of the controversy. In it, Aniston plays a single woman who becomes a mother through artificial insemination. While promoting the movie, Aniston commented that “women are realizing more and more that they don’t have to settle, they don’t have to fiddle with a man to have that child . . . they are realizing that if it’s that time in their life and they want this part, they can do it with or without that.”
If anyone else had said it, no one would even care. But when a Hollywood starlet, with a host of young female fans that want to be just like her, says it, it’s news. So Bill O’Reilly took her on for “diminishing the role of the dad” and sending out a message that is “destructive to society,” like having a dad really doesn’t matter much in the scheme of things.
