Geneva and Grove City Colleges Hold President and AD Challenges

Written by Staff | Saturday, February 13, 2010

Losing reps will wear opponent’s sweatshirts at winner’s chapel.

Since Geneva College became a member of the President’s Athletic Conference of the NCAA in 2007, old rivalries have been renewed. Recognizing the friendly competition between Geneva College and Grove City College, the schools are holding an Athletic Director’s Challenge and a President’s Challenge in association with the men’s and women’s basketball games at Geneva on Saturday, February 13.

At the 5:30 p.m. Geneva vs. Grove City women’s game, there will be an Athletic Director’s Challenge between Geneva’s AD Dr. Kim Gall and Grove City’s AD Dr. Don Lyle. The AD from the losing team will wear a sweatshirt with the name of the winning team at that school’s chapel.

At the 7:30 Geneva vs. Grove City men’s game there will be a President’s Challenge between Geneva’s President Dr. Ken Smith and Grove City’s President Dr. Richard Jewell. The president from the losing team will wear a sweatshirt with the name of the winning team at that school’s chapel.

Geneva College President Ken Smith noted that the renewed rivalry with Grove City is one that the school’s alum, students, faculty and staff have particularly enjoyed. The friendly challenges extended for the basketball games add an element of fun and good sportsmanship to the event.

Geneva College, located in Beaver Falls, Pa., and Grove City College, nearly 50 miles northeast in Grove City, Pa., are both private Christian institutions with a long history in western Pennsylvania.

Geneva College is a comprehensive Christian college of the arts, sciences and professional studies. Founded in the tradition of the Reformed Christian faith, Geneva prepares students to serve Christ in all areas of society: work, family and the church. Geneva College’s philosophy of education is based on the Foundational Concepts of Christian Higher Education. Geneva is a founding member of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU).
