Fathers, Be An Example In Worship

Stop right here. Read the title again.

Written by Jacob Crouch | Sunday, July 13, 2025

I want to be a model of someone in love with Christ. I want them to learn what it looks like to worship God in spirit and truth (John 4:23).

Fathers, do you believe that God has given you a special role within the home? You are the leader and head of your household (Eph 5). You are commanded to train your children and to bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Eph 6:4). And as a father to sons, I know that the example I set as the leader is contagious. My children catch on to my phrases, my mannerisms, and all my oddities. I see them walking, talking, and imitating me at every turn. Sometimes I see my own flaws more clearly as they come out in my children. There’s no escaping it. I am an example.

This is true in worship too. When my kids watch me sing, do they see an uninterested, distracted worshiper? When I listen to the sermon, am I engaged? Do I read God’s word like I read the phone book? I know this: I’m tempted to do all of those things.
