Through worshipping together throughout the week in the home, you are making disciples of your children. Yes, make going to church a habit, but also worship regularly together in your home. Teach your children diligently. It’s vital for your family’s growth in Christ Jesus. Now is the time to take Deuteronomy 6 seriously.
Family worship is often neglected in amongst Christian families; therefore, it is a practice we must be intentional about promoting to those we help shepherd. How can we obey God’s commands of Deuteronomy 6 without setting aside time for family worship? Consider what the Lord says,
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. (Deut. 6:4-9)
To “teach them diligently,” children must see God glorified in the home. Yes, hopefully, they see their parents worshipping God on Sunday, but what about the rest of the week?
Parents, it is not good enough to worship Christ on the Lord’s Day, though that is important, but the Lord is calling for something more. He is calling families to worship God together.
