Ex-Gwinnett County (GA) planning commissioner charged with theft from ARP Church

Written by David Wickert, Atlanta Journal-Constitution | Wednesday, November 10, 2010

Ruling Elder Floy Jumper was accused in August of writing checks to himself as treasurer of Peachtree Corners Presbyterian Church (ARP), alleged to have pilfered at least $48,000 from the Norcross church in 2009

A former Gwinnett County planning commissioner who is accused of stealing from his church has been arrested and charged with theft.

Arrest warrants for Floy Jumper indicate the former commissioner took nearly $48,000 from Peachtree Corners Presbyterian Church in Norcross, in 2009.

Sheriff’s Department records indicate Jumper was booked in and released from the county jail Monday on $11,400 bond.

Reached by cell phone, Jumper declined to comment Tuesday. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported that police were investigating Jumper in August.

Jumper, 58, resigned his seat on the Municipal-Gwinnett County Planning Commission the day before the church filed a police report Aug. 25.

The Rev. John C. Dorr Jr. of Peachtree Corners Presbyterian Church could not be reached for comment. Dorr previously issued a statement indicating the church would not be commenting on the alleged theft.

“While our congregation is saddened by the recent events, we will continue to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our community and fulfill the mission and ministry to which God has called us,” Dorr’s statement said.

Jumper, a Buford resident, served nearly five years on the Planning Commission. He was appointed by County Commissioner Kevin Kenerly. Jumper is a real estate agent who lists properties with Kenerly’s brokerage firm.
