The following announcement was made by Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, Colorado.
On behalf of the entire CCU Board of Trustees, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Donald Sweeting as the next president of Colorado Christian University. Dr. Sweeting succeeds our beloved president, Bill Armstrong, who passed away on July 5, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. Dr. Sweeting will begin his presidency at CCU on October 1st.
The nationwide search for a new president of CCU began in February 2016 after President Armstrong announced his plans to retire. The search was conducted by the CCU Board of Trustees with assistance from nationally-known executive search firm, CarterBaldwin. The focus of our search was to select a candidate who is an excellent cultural and theological fit for CCU, and someone who is aligned with our values as an evangelical institution.
From an extensive pool of candidates, from all walks of life and vocations, the CCU trustees unanimously selected Dr. Donald Sweeting as the right man to lead CCU at this time – someone with an unshakable commitment to Jesus Christ, the University’s Statement of Faith and Strategic Objectives, and our pursuit to become a great university. Colorado Christian University remains steadfast in placing Jesus Christ at the center of who we are as an institution.
Don has been closely affiliated with CCU since 2004, and served as a member of the Board of Trustees during Bill Armstrong’s tenure as president from 2006-2016. He worked closely with President Armstrong as his personal confidant, and was called upon to officiate his funeral.
As a trustee, Dr. Sweeting served alongside President Armstrong, the trustees, and the vice presidential leadership team to guide the University to an unprecedented phase of growth and opportunity. Don is both humbled and excited to continue the direction set by President Armstrong for CCU, including adherence to our Statement of Faith and the University’s Strategic Objectives.
