Don’t Rely on Feelings of “Peace” to Know God’s Will

Many of the right and good decisions we make in life are done so with a measure of fear and uneasiness.

Written by Pete Hurst | Sunday, January 25, 2026

I knew marriage was for life and a serious decision and I was scared when I proposed, but it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The same is true when I started to travel to foreign countries or begin a business or change employment. We go into many of these times with misgivings. Some of us have personalities inclined toward being anxious. Feelings are a poor determination for decision making.

She explained to everyone on social media that she and her husband had found the perfect house that had checked all the boxes for them, but they didn’t have the feeling of “peace” they wanted, so they passed on it.

Feelings of “peace” is not the way we ought to make decisions.

Yes, Philippians 4: 6,7 tells us not to be anxious and to pray, and we will have God’s peace, but it is a peace of confidence in Him that He will take care of us and He is governing all things.

It isn’t a promise about hunches, feelings, intuition; things that may be more influenced by a bad night’s sleep or too much wine.
