Let’s not do the devil’s work for him. He’s a loser. He is a crushed snake. “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you (Romans 16:20). Soon. Come Lord Jesus.
That serpent, the devil, is a deceiver (Gen 3). He is the father of lies (John 8:44). He is described as having a kingdom (Matt 12:26), as the god of this world (2 Cor 4:4), and he has an army at his disposal (Rev 12:9, Rev 20:9-11). Satan steals the seed that is sown in the heart (Mark 4:15), sets our minds on the things of man (Mark 8:33), and tries to tempt Christians into sin (Mark 1:13). He is a lowdown, dirty rotten scoundrel, and he wreaks havoc on the world. He is crafty, and he has schemes (2 Cor 2:11). He is the accuser of the brothers (Rev 12:10). And you know what? Sometimes he doesn’t even have to lift a finger. Sometimes, we just do the devil’s work for him. Let me show you one way.
Did you catch that? He is the accuser of the brothers. Sometimes, our petty selfishness and pride cause us to pick up that mantle for ourselves. We feel wronged or mistreated, and instead of taking up our cross, we take up name calling. We begin to accuse our brothers. We find ourselves to be better judges than God, and choose to bring condemnation on those who are in Christ Jesus. We have a misplaced sense of justice and we turn the sword on our brothers and sisters. Instead of love covering a multitude of sins, we throw the cover off and want to leave our brothers and sisters exposed and naked for the world to see. Instead of assisting, we become accusers. And the devil sits idly by as we do his work for him.
