Churches in our Weekend Spotlight

Written by Staff | Friday, September 16, 2011

Following are some brief news clips from churches with special plans this weekend. If we receive enough input from churches, we will make this a regular Friday feature. Contact Publisher Don K. Clements for more info.

Seminar to address ‘Faith, Film and Philosophy’ at New Life PCA in Yorktown, Indiana

If you’ve ever asked the question, “What was that movie about?” or wondered “What message, if any, was that story intended to convey?” after watching a film, you are invited to attend a seminar on film entitled “Faith, Film and Philosophy: Discerning the Big Ideas on the Big Screen.”

The seminar will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 30 at New Life Presbyterian Church, at the corner of Delaware County Road 500-N and River Road in Yorktown.

The speaker is award-winning author Jim Spiegel, professor of philosophy and religion at Taylor University in Upland. During the seminar, Spiegel will discuss how to discern the philosophical concepts and claims presented in movies.

St. Paul’s Evangelical Free Church in Creve Coeur (St. Louis suburbs), MO to host ‘Back to Church Sunday event

St. Paul’s is participating in Back to Church Sunday, a national movement of churches to encourage formerly churched people to rediscover church and try it again.

According to LifeWay Research, 38 percent of people are receptive or highly receptive to attending church. 82 percent say they would be open to attending church if a friend invited them. But, unfortunately only 2 percent of active church-going Christians invited someone to church last year!

St. Paul’s is joining with thousands of churches to help change those statistics by inviting everyone to attend church on National Back to Church Sunday, September 18.

We hope you will consider joining us for this special Sunday, and find out more about what is happening in your own neighborhood.

For more information, please contact the church office at 314-993-0015 or check out the national promotional video [Editor’s note: the original URL (link) referenced is no longer valid, so the link has been removed.]

EDITOR’S NOTE: THE AQUILA REPORT WOULD LIKE TO MAKE THIS A REGULAR WEEKEND FEATURE. THOSE WHO HAVE STORIES ABOUT SPECIAL EVENTS AT THEIR CHURCH SHOULD CONTACT [email protected] FOR SUBMISSION INFORMATION.
