There is no excuse for the sinful way some people and leaders say and do things. I wish it wasn’t true, but it is. Think for a minute. This is nothing new. Consider what the Old Testament prophets put up with. Look at how Christ was opposed by those who represented the Church in His day. Read how the Corinthian Christians treated the Apostle Paul where he had brought the message of Jesus to this church originally.
As Christians, the Church is a big part of our lives. It’s not optional or something extra, it’s essential. It’s God’s will for us. It’s what Christ has given us.
So, what does the title above mean?
Kindest – The Church is where God calls us to worship with His people. It’s where we receive those things He has given for our spiritual welfare, like worship, preaching, the sacraments, other believers, and leaders to care for our spiritual welfare.
It’s the kindest of places. And God loves His Church.
Cruelest – Many of us know this by experience. The place where love, kindness, grace, forgiveness, and other good things should prevail but sometimes doesn’t. And it’s the cruelest because grace has been shown to some who don’t in turn show it to others.
