Synod 2010 begins its sessions on Saturday, June 12, at 9 a.m. in the Martin and Janet Ozinga Chapel at Trinity Christian College, Palos Heights, Illinois. Grace Community CRC, Oak Lawn, Illinois, will serve as the convening church.

The Agenda for Synod 2010 is now available on the Synodical Resources page of the Christian Reformed Church in North America website. Hard copies of the agenda will be mailed to churches after April 15.

The pastor of the convening church, Rev. Michael J. Kooy, will serve as the president pro-tem until synod is duly constituted and its four officers have been elected. Rev. Kooy will also deliver the message at the synodical Service of Prayer and Praise that will be held Sunday, June 13, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Grace Community CRC, 10415 S. Kedvale Ave., Oak Lawn, Illinois.

“The congregations of the Christian Reformed Church in North America are requested to remember the synodical assembly in intercessory prayers on Sundays, June 6 and 13,” writes Rev. Gerard Dykstra, Executive Director of the CRCNA, in a Preface to the agenda.

“Let us pray that the Holy Spirit will equip the synodical delegates to serve in faith and obedience and will lead the Christian Reformed Church into new and challenging areas of ministry.”

Some of the issues and topics likely to be addressed at Synod 2010 include:
· Proposed Guidelines for Handling Abuse Allegations Against a Church Leader
· The RCA/CRC Translation of the Belgic Confession, Cannons of Dort, and Heidelberg Catechism
· A Revised Ecumenical Charter
· Interfaith Dialogue
· Children at the Table
· Migration of Workers
· A draft Covenant for Officebearers

For the first time, an online forum has been set up for open discussion of Synodical reports and other Synod-related matters. It is available on the new Network website. [Editor’s note: the original URL (link) referenced is no longer valid, so the link has been removed.]
