In addition to his primary responsibility as senior pastor at Christ Covenant Church, DeYoung has also been named Assistant Professor of Systematic Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte, beginning June 1, 2017. He was formerly a Chancellor’s Professor for the Seminary. In his new role, De Young will be a residential, voting member of the faculty and teach several courses during each year.

Matthews, NC: The congregation of Christ Covenant Church, Matthews, NC, voted overwhelmingly today to call Reverend Kevin DeYoung as their next senior pastor, effective June 19, 2017. Christ Covenant was particularized on December 5, 1981 and is one of the largest churches in the Presbyterian Church of America, with more than 1800 members and an active ministry that includes Covenant Day School, six Campus Outreach groups on Charlotte and Greensboro area college campuses, multiple church plants in the US and Europe and local mercy initiatives like Seek the City.

Identified as one of the nation’s rising evangelical leaders, DeYoung is recognized as a preacher, author, scholar and spokesperson who can effectively relate the issues of our time to biblical truth and the Christian faith.

A native of Jenison, Michigan and current pastor of University Reformed Church in East Lansing, Michigan, DeYoung also serves on the council and blogs for The Gospel Coalition. Kevin regularly speaks at churches, conferences, and colleges and seminaries in the North America and overseas.

DeYoung has published a dozen books for adults and children, including Just Do Something and The Biggest Story. His book, Crazy Busy: A Mercifully Short Book About a Big Problem, was named the 2014 Evangelical Christian Publishers Association Book of the Year. In addition, Christianity Today has awarded Book of the Year honors to three of his books in 2009, 2010, and 2013. World Magazine named What Does the Bible Really Teach About Homosexuality? one of its 2015 Books of the Year.

A graduate of Hope College in Holland, Michigan with a B.A. in Religion and of Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts where he earned his Master of Divinity degree, DeYoung is now a Ph.D. candidate in Early Modern History at the University of Leicester in the UK. His research has focused on the theology of John
Witherspoon, a Scottish-American Presbyterian theologian and founding father of the United States.

DeYoung and his wife Trisha are the parents of seven children, ages 13 years to 9 months.

Dr. Mike Ross, who has been senior pastor at Christ Covenant Church for more than a decade announced his plans to transition into new areas of ministry early in 2016. Under Dr. Ross’ leadership Christ Covenant expanded its church planting and international mission emphasis and revitalized its campus to provide excellent resources for both the
church and school as they continue to grow in outreach and as a resource for ministries.
