The group is comprised of radical Islamists who oppose both Westerners and “apostate” Muslims

Written by Joe Carter | Saturday, January 24, 2015

“In 2009 the group launched military operation to create an Islamic state in Africa. The group carried out a number of attacks on police stations and other government buildings in Maiduguri. Nigeria’s security forces were able to capture the group’s leader, Muhammad Yusuf, the group’s headquarters, and many of its fighters. The Nigerian government thought... Continue Reading

Depression-Era Dishonesty

The drive for abortion began not in the 1960s but in the 1930s

Written by Marvin Olasky | Thursday, January 22, 2015

The most effective pro-abortion book of the 1930s, Dr. Frederick J. Taussig’s Abortion, attacked the “ridiculous, ofttimes incomprehensive [sic] and harsh statutes on our books.” He recommended that abortion be legal when “the mother is physically depleted by childbearing and poverty” and “clearly irresponsible.”   (WNS)–We on the pro-life side sometimes fantasize that the abortion horror... Renaissance Learning found that the average book assigned for summer reading at college has a seventh-grade reading level

Written by Maggie Lit | Tuesday, January 20, 2015

“We are spending billions of dollars trying to send students to college and maintain them there when, on average, they read at about the grade 6 or 7 level, according to Renaissance Learning’s latest report on what American students in grades 9-12 read, whether assigned or chosen.”   The average U.S. college freshman reads at... If the Supreme Court Legalizes Gay Marriage In 2015, How Will Evangelicals Respond?

How will Conservative Christians respond if the Supreme Court makes gay marriage legal nationwide?

Written by Jonathan Merritt | Sunday, January 18, 2015

“Evangelicals are, by definition, defined around the Bible and the gospel,” Moore said. “The Scriptures are clear on what marriage is, and clear on the sin of sexual expression outside of the marriage covenant of a man and woman.” If the court were to “redefine marriage,” Moore said Christians should “be ready to offer an... Department of Education: Title IX Applies to Transgender Students

Schools that offer single-gender classes, from kindergarten through high school, must allow students to attend based on their declared “gender identity,” according to a Department of Education memo.

Written by Courtney Crandell | Sunday, January 18, 2015

The 34-page memo applies to federally funded schools and extends Title IX gender discrimination protection to transgender students. It requires transgender students to be treated according to their proclaimed gender identity “in all aspects of the planning, implementation, enrollment, operation, and evaluation of single-sex classes.”     (WNS)–Schools that offer single-gender classes, from kindergarten through... Duke Cancels Plan For Muslim Call To Prayer From Tower

Duke University canceled its plan to use a chapel tower for a weekly call to prayer for Muslims after getting bombarded with calls and emails from alumni and others

Written by Jonathan Drew | Friday, January 16, 2015

The chapel’s associate dean for religious life, Christy Lohr Sapp, said before the plans were canceled that the move showed the school’s commitment to religious pluralism. In a column written for the News and Observer in Raleigh, Lohr Sapp acknowledged the headlines generated by violence by extremists in ISIS, Boko Haram and al-Qaida, contrasting it... Virginia School Board Threatens Home Schooling Parents With Imprisonment

The School Board Wants to Haul Home Schooled Children, Aged 14+, in for Interrogation

Written by Sara Noble | Thursday, January 15, 2015

Goochland County, Virginia School Board is demanding parents and their children justify their religious beliefs under interrogation. The Board changed their policy and now, once a child is 14 or older, the child has to state whether their beliefs are in accord with their parents’ beliefs. They are then to be brought before the board... Continue Reading

Atheist Parents Take On Christian ‘Good News Club’ With ‘Better News Club’

A group of atheists in Rochester, N.Y., consisting of atheists, humanists and skeptics, announced its own after-school program: a Young Skeptics club featuring science, logic and learning activities

Written by Kimberly Winston | Thursday, January 15, 2015

The Better News Club and Young Skeptics operate under the assumption that “it’s more important to teach children how to make belief decisions for themselves, rather than accept claims presented to them without thinking critically about those claims,” according to its mission statement. Young Skeptics is thought to be the first nontheistic after-school club for elementary aged school children... Continue Reading

My New Answer To “So, What’s Your Perspective On Gay Marriage?” (Until I Hear A Better One)…

There is no true ‘third-way’ of looking at the issue of same-sex marriage

Written by Kenny Burchard | Thursday, January 15, 2015

Think about that and let it sink in! From my perspective Rev. Welby is exactly right. There are really only two answers now. We have achieved what I might call “full polarity” on the issue – each side saying with passion and full conviction that, “Being a Christian means…” A. That we cannot ever affirm... Continue Reading

Religious Bias Issues Debated After Atlanta Mayor’s Dismissal of Fire Chief

Kevin Cochran, the Atlanta fire chief, was fired for handing our copies of his Christian self-help book that denounces homosexuality.

Written by Richard Fausset | Thursday, January 15, 2015

More pressing is the possible effect that Mr. Cochran’s firing could have on a continuing debate over whether Georgia needs a so-called religious freedom law, which would give more legal sway to individuals who challenge state and local government policies that they believe to be discriminatory.   ATLANTA — Mayor Kasim Reed’s decision to dismiss...
