When Africa Bleeds

Boko Haram wants to “cleanse” Nigeria of Christians

Written by Timothy George | Saturday, February 28, 2015

“As the attacks have accelerated in recent weeks, leaders from various Christian denominations in Nigeria have called on their Christian brothers and sisters in the West, along with all people of goodwill, to speak out against the mounting violence in their country.”   Seldom in recent memory has the Western world seemed more united than... Atlanta’s Former Fire Chief Sues The City, Says He Was Fired Because of Religious Beliefs

The standoff between the former Atlanta fire chief and the city that employed him has escalated

Written by Abby Ohlheiser | Saturday, February 28, 2015

“Cochran, who is an evangelical Christian, was terminated in January after a city investigation pertaining to his self-published book, “Who Told You That You Were Naked,” a Bible study-style text that covers a range of his personal religious beliefs.”   The standoff between former Atlanta fire chief Kelvin Cochran and the city that used to employ him escalated on Thursday, when... How Political Correctness Improved My Life

The Left’s weapon of choice may be dividing the country, but it’s not winning converts.

Written by David French | Thursday, February 26, 2015

Political correctness demystified the Left. I saw amongst the radical students a herd mentality more rigid and unthinking than I’d ever seen in an entire life growing up in a fundamentalist church (yes, fundamentalist — our little sect believed only its members merited eternal life). The herd conventional wisdom hardened virtually overnight, debate was minimal... Continue Reading

Delta Dividends

In a community where race still divides, leaders look for ways to unite and cultivate

Written by Marvin Olasky | Thursday, February 26, 2015

How important is Greenwood’s racial history? Depends who’s writing and displaying the history. Greenwood’s Museum of the Mississippi Delta last year displayed seven pretty but romanticized paintings of blacks working in the fields or driving cotton-filled wagons. It also had on a wall a small photo from 1963 of African-Americans walking in front of the... Continue Reading

Utah Highest, Vermont Lowest On Newest Church Attendance Poll

More Utahns go to church every week — 51 percent — than any other state, according to a new Gallup poll.

Written by Peggy Fletcher Stack | Thursday, February 26, 2015

At the bottom of the list is Vermont, Gallup reports, “where 17 percent of residents say they attend religious services every week,” Newport writes. Just ahead of the Green Mountain State are New Hampshire (20 percent), Maine (20 percent), Massachusetts (22 percent), Washington (24 percent) and Oregon (24 percent). Half the bottom 10 are in... How Libya’s Martyrs Are Witnessing to Egypt

Murders spark largest outreach ever amid new freedoms and new threats

Written by Jayson Casper | Wednesday, February 25, 2015

As CT reported on Thursday, the beheadings by the Islamic State in Libya have resulted in unprecedented sympathy for Egypt’s Christians, who are increasingly finding common identity across denominational lines. The martyrdoms have also allowed Copts a platform to witness to the realities of their faith, as they publicly forgave the terrorists.   Undaunted by... Continue Reading

Therapists Who Say Gays Can Be Cured Are Committing Consumer Fraud, NJ Judge Says

People who provide gay-to-straight conversion therapy are committing fraud if they describe homosexuality as a mental disorder that can be cured, said a New Jersey state judge

Written by Susan K. Livio | Sunday, February 22, 2015

In his ruling last week Bariso wrote: “It is a misrepresentation in violation of the Consumer Fraud Act, in advertising or selling conversion therapy services to describe homosexuality, not as being a normal variation of human sexuality, but as being a mental illness, disease (or) disorder.” The ruling also said conversion therapists could not advertise... Should We Pray for the Defeat of ISIS, or Their Conversion?

Sometimes forget that we are called to be a people of both justice and justification, and that these two are not contradictory.

Written by Russell Moore | Friday, February 20, 2015

It sounds awfully spiritual, at first blush, to say that we should not pray for the defeat of our enemies on the field of battle. But that’s only the case if these enemies are not actually doing anything. This terrorist group is raping, enslaving, beheading, crucifying our brothers and sisters in Christ, as well as... Family Awarded $1.1 Million After Kids Were Removed From Home

Four years after their two children were removed from their home by child protective workers, a California family has received a $1.1 million settlement from San Diego County

Written by Beth Greenfield | Thursday, February 19, 2015

“After her children returned home, Joanna says she began searching for a way to get justice, but was told at every turn that CWS workers have immunity. Finally, she found attorneys to take her case and filed suit against the county.”   “I’m very glad it’s over,” mom Joanna Swartwood tells Yahoo Parenting about the... Continue Reading

Islamic State: Egyptian Christians Held In Libya ‘Killed’

A video has emerged showing the beheadings purportedly of 21 Egyptian Christians who had been kidnapped by Islamic State militants in Libya.

Written by Dan Wooding, Assist New Service | Monday, February 16, 2015

The kidnapped Egyptian workers, all Coptic Christians, were seized in December and January from the coastal town of Sirte in eastern Libya, now under the control of Islamist groups. The BBC went on to say that the video of the beheadings was posted online by Libyan jihadists who pledge loyalty to IS. A caption made... Continue Reading
