Diabetes diagnosis motivates “Tennessean” reporter to change his life

Bob is our most frequently reprinted religion reporter from a daily newspaper

Written by Bob Smietana, The Tennessean | Sunday, June 24, 2012

A mile into my workout at the gym and I start dreaming of cake. Chocolate cake with buttercream frosting that’s chilled but not frozen — cold enough so the cake and frosting are firm and rich and so sweet that you can get lost in the flavor. And French fries, crinkle-cut and just snatched from the deep fryer, so crispy that they almost snap when you take a bite. With buckets of ketchup on the side and a Blue Moon beer with a slice of orange to wash them down.

A Mountain Top View of God

Pondering God’s majestic splendor all we could do was whisper, “Wow!”

Written by Miriam Gautier | Sunday, June 24, 2012

We headed for the summit. The air was thin and the going wasn’t easy; we had to stop often to catch our breath only to lose it again when surveying the majesty surrounding us….When we reached the summit we knew we were on “Hallowed Ground.” God created this beauty for us to inhale and enjoy. All we could do was to silently look around and whisper, “Wow!”

Kevin Durant ‘Blessed’ Despite Thunder’s Emotional Loss in NBA Finals

Attempting to get closer to the God by reading Scripture every day

Written by Christine Thomasos, Christian Post | Sunday, June 24, 2012

Kevin Durant, the Oklahoma City Thunder's Christian forward, may have cried after an emotional NBA Finals loss to the Miami Heat on Thursday night, but the league's leading shooter has expressed nothing but gratitude for the opportunity to compete.

Derek Thomas to be Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology at RTS/Atlanta

Remains minister of preaching and teaching at FPC, Columbia, SC

Written by Staff | Wednesday, June 20, 2012

Michael Milton, chancellor of RTS, said, "The biblical model for pastoral preparation, and the training of all of God's people for kingdom service, begins with an incarnational ministry. At RTS we desire 'pastor-scholars,' with a love for Christ's church and experience in the pulpit and parish, to shape the hearts and minds of the next generation of shepherds

Webb Simpson, Golf’s U.S. Open Champion, says he is a ‘*sinner* loved by a Savior.’

Simpson joins a recent string of high-profile Christian athletes with US Open Golf championaship

Written by Sarah Pulliam Bailey, CT | Tuesday, June 19, 2012

"It was a cool day. I had a peace all day," Simpson told reporters. “I probably prayed more on the last three holes than I’ve ever done in my life, and that kept me calm and got me home in 2 under."

Five confessions of a failed church planter

[I] raised money, developed a killer logo; even my wife was onboard! How could I fail?

Written by John Thomas | Monday, June 18, 2012

That took place just over 6 years ago. Sure, there were tons of things that happened along the way which could be blamed for my failure...yada, yada, yada. Yet, after much reflection, evaluation--and ultimately repentance--I realized that I am to blame. I confess: I am responsible.

In Celebration of the Memorial of Charles Spurgeon’s Birthday

Glimpses from the Life of Charles Spurgeon Concerning Parenting and Family Worship

Written by Ray Rhodes, Jr. | Monday, June 18, 2012

Charles Haddon Spurgeon: Born June 19, 1834. Died January 31, 1892. Our objective is to distill some principles from his life that will help us in our homes. What can we learn from Spurgeon’s upbringing? What discoveries can be made as we consider how he and his wife Susannah brought up their children? Can we learn from how Spurgeon interacted with all children? Are there principles that we might employ that will bring sweetness to our own families? I believe that there are.

A Dad Like Jack: The Influence of Ronald Reagan’s Father

Not a great dad but one who had an impact, sometimes in unorthodox ways.

Written by Paul Kengor, WNS | Saturday, June 16, 2012

Moving took a toll on the young Ronald; it created a void in him—a hole that religion came to fill. In need of a rock of reliability, he looked to where his mom, his heart, and his desolation pointed him: upward. There, he found what he perceived as a permanent friend—God, who was always in His place, accessible at any moment, who never moved on him.

Dr. Ron Choong and Project Timothy: The Bible You Thought You Knew

Written by Rachel Miller | Thursday, June 14, 2012

While neither philosophy nor science leads to God, they are helpful tools to keeping a check on our prejudices and biases. We are wonderfully capable of convincing ourselves that our thoughts are true because we wish them to be so. If we are indeed committed to thinking things through, we need a safe place to do that thinking without fear of being denigrated or misrepresented. …

B. B. Warfield on Creation and Evolution (Livingstone and Noll are wrong)

Written by Fred G. Zaspel | Wednesday, June 13, 2012

This view of Warfield is widely accepted, perhaps the “canonical” understanding, and Livingstone and Noll are often cited, uncritically, in support. I am persuaded, however, that this understanding is mistaken. Warfield did claim to have accepted the theory of evolution in his youth, but he then rejected it early in his career. Thereafter he remained open to the possibility of it and affirmed that Scripture could accommodate it, if it were to be proven true, but he himself continued to reject the theory.
