The Faith of Wales

Wales for one shining moment (in 1904) became something like a perfect Christian society.

Written by Philip Jenkins, Patheos | Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Barely 70 percent of the Welsh claim any Christian loyalty whatever, and only ten percent report regular attendance at church or chapel, a figure even smaller than in Godless England… The old core Dissenting churches – Independent, Presbyterian and Baptist – each claim around one percent of the population as members.

Scripture, Song and Six Grandchildren: Romneys Open Church Doors to Press

The campaign’s decision to allow reporters into church was something of a surprise.

Written by Michael Barbaro & Ashley Parker, NYTimes | Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Mr. and Mrs. Romney sang along to hymns and took turns holding their grandchildren during the service, which was attended by about 100 people. At times, Mr. Romney flipped through a picture book with his grandson Johnny.

Liberal churches show signs of strength in Nashville

Local success stories not being matched nationally

Written by Bob Smietana, The Tennessean | Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Churches such as Second Presbyterian and St. David’s are part of a new trend among liberal or progressive churches, said religion scholar Diana Butler Bass, author of “Christianity After Religion.” She said that starting in the 1980s, many liberal churches and theologians began to rediscover spirituality and the Bible. That makes them very different from liberal churches of the past.

Calvin Miller Has Died: In Memoriam and His “Letter to the Church”

Under his leadership, Westside (Omaha) grew from 10 members to over 2,500 when he left to join the faculty of Southwestern Seminary

Written by Ed Stetzer | Monday, August 20, 2012

Dr. Miller knew the importance of story as well. A wonderful wordsmith, he would use the element of story in such a way that cold facts and dry doctrine came to life in ways rarely seen. His poetry was an outpouring of his devotion to both his Savior and his sweetheart, Barbara Joyce.

Second Coming Christ Controversy, Part II: Christianity Today Writer Ken Smith – Deceptive Business Practices; With Child Porn Ties?

As a result of the investigation by the FTC, Zango was forced to pay a fine of $3 million.

Written by Katherine t. Phan, Christian Post | Monday, August 20, 2012

When this reporter returned the phone call to Smith, he sounded surprised to hear that this reporter actually wanted to interview him regarding the claims that he made on his blog about Christian organizations as well as his faith background. Smith agreed to an interview scheduled for the next day.

Second Coming Christ Controversy, Part II: Slings and Arrows

Co-Author of the Christianity Today investigation of the Second Coming Christ controversy responds to new attack from Christian Post

Written by Ken Smith | Monday, August 20, 2012

I hope it’s clear to neutral observers that this doesn’t really have much to do with whether David Jang’s community encouraged the belief that he was the Second Coming Christ

Being a Pastor and Speaking Out in Today’s Culture

Pastors must diagnose the presenting ill to discover the real issue beneath it. Only then do we speak.

Written by Michael Milton | Monday, August 20, 2012

The public square is not the university professor’s classroom nor is it the TV news studio. This is my Father’s world. Therefore, I speak, and I speak publicly, as the Lord gives an open door, through media, because I am compelled by compassion for souls that may be victims of systems that will ultimately enslave them. I believe that pastors must speak to our declining culture, whatever their pulpit

First Presbyterian, Chattanooga, begins Three “R” tutoring in local elementary school

“It costs the school nothing. The teachers applaud it. The parents appreciate it, the community benefits" Pastor Tim Tinsley

Written by Roy Exum, The Chatanoogan | Monday, August 20, 2012

“We have a totally separate group called Child Evangel Fellowship. We are going to be real careful -- our thrust is reading and math. Obviously, if there is an interest in just who and what First Presbyterian Church is we’ll respond to it but this is more about reaching out to help our community with a very pressing need.”

Reemphasizing the Knowledge of Christ

The way people come to relationship and deepen their relationship with God is through Knowing Christ

Written by Timothy Gray Muse | Monday, August 20, 2012

This being said, it’s helpful to keep in mind that while cultural battles have been helpful in making the church aware of our condition and needs, our ultimate need and focus centers not on winning the cultural war as much as enabling people to come to relationship and depth of relationship with God. When people do this, it will have a direct effect upon the cultural battles.

A message to WORLD readers on the David Barton controversy

“Let her and Falsehood grapple; who ever knew Truth put to the worse, in a free and open encounter?” - Milton

Written by Marvin Olasky, WNS | Monday, August 20, 2012

The most popular American history book at colleges, Howard Zinn’s leftist A People’s History of the United States, is full of inaccuracies, and folks on the left don’t seem to mind because they need fables to increase their faith.
