A Wakeup Call for the Church: Young People Saying ‘You Lost Me’ – by Eric Metaxas

Written by Don Clements | Tuesday, May 29, 2012

Today's younger generation is relationally oriented. Teaching them a set of principles in an isolated setting is not going to inculcate a biblical worldview in many of these teens. As my BreakPoint colleague John Stonestreet says, "When it comes to teens, worldview is as much caught as it is taught'."

D. served with the SBC International Mission Board from 1997-1999 and, upon returning, earned his Ph.D. in Systematic Theology from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Archbishop of Canterbury: who’ll get the impossible job? – by Peter Stanford

Written by Peter Stanford, UK Telegraph | Tuesday, May 29, 2012

So the bookies who are busy offering odds on the runners and riders in this unusual race…have nevertheless installed the 52-year-old Bishop of Coventry, Christopher Cocksworth, as favourite. Unknown on a national stage, his great advantage appears to be that, on the see‑saw principle, he is the favoured Evangelical candidate.

Battle Over Free Church Of Scotland Property may turn over hymn singing

Written by Staff | Monday, May 28, 2012

“The question is whether the present body claiming to be the Free Church of Scotland is identifiable with the Free Church of Scotland of 1843. There is a moderately strong argument that by their action the present body are no longer the same body they once were. There was a principle that underlay worship in the Scottish Church at the time of reformation, that it should be unaccompanied and using scriptural materials.”

Ecclesiastical Architecture (5)

Written by Rebecca VanDoodewaard | Saturday, May 26, 2012

Music is another element of worship that effects the architecture of a sanctuary. The congregation’s beliefs about this aspect of praise is one of the most clear and immediate identifying marks of denominational affiliation and theology in the building.

What I Learned in Japan

'Take Away' lessons from the mission field to use at home.

Written by Ken Montgomery | Saturday, May 26, 2012

For 14 years she shared the gospel, but with little response. But following a family crisis, Mrs. M and her family began to seek for true comfort and to learn of Christ: following an extensive instruction class with the pastor, they made profession and received baptism last November. This is but one of many examples of faithfulness and perseverance in the long-haul by which the church in Japan testifies to the need to wait upon the Lord to produce his fruit in his season.

Southern Baptist President Bryant Wright previews SBC annual meeting

Written by Baptist Press | Friday, May 25, 2012

"We also will be having our convention sessions during the day, and having no night sessions gives you freedom to fellowship with your friends and family members and enjoy some of the great food that's there in New Orleans," Wright said. By eliminating evening sessions last year, Wright noticed greater participation by messengers

Insider Movement Issue causes Assemblies of God to delay decision on Wycliffe Partnership

Written by Michael Gryboski, Christian Post | Thursday, May 24, 2012

"If, after the World Evangelical Alliance panel review is complete, Wycliffe's position concerning familial language is compatible with AGWM's … we will gratefully continue what has been a long-standing and effective partnership." At present, 34 Assemblies of God missionaries work with Wycliffe.

SBC’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission trustees elect a new chairman

Written by Art Toalston, BP | Thursday, May 24, 2012

"It is important to understand that our Southern Baptist polity places Dr. (Richard) Land under the authority of the ERLC trustees who are elected by and accountable directly to the Convention," Faith said. "The trustees are aware of their responsibility to the Convention and to the watching world."

Is the PCUSA’s ECO a Reformed Body?

Written by Jim Singleton | Wednesday, May 23, 2012

The problem we are trying to correct is what Lefferts Loescher called “The Broadening Church.” We do not believe broad theological diversity and pluralism are helpful in building flourishing churches to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
