PCA’s Blue Ridge Presbytery Approves BCO 58-5 Amendment

The vote to not allow communion by 'intinction' was 26-24-1

Written by Don K. Clements | Monday, September 24, 2012

"This amendment clarifies what the BCO and our Standards already assume is the Biblical practice, and there is no good argument not to ask our churches to conform to this simple instruction in order to obey the plain Scriptural accounts and to help preserve our liturgical unity together as a denomination. Therefore, we should approve this amendment to our Constitution."

‘Blatant discrimination’ for Toronto Churches Renting School Space for Worship

Toronto’s public school board slams huge rent hikes on churches mostly unprepared for battle in the public square

Written by WNS | Friday, September 21, 2012

The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) in late August informed churches renting public school space that, beginning Sept. 1, faith-based organizations no longer qualified for reduced rates available to other charitable non-religious organizations, such as the Girl Guides. With only a couple of days’ notice these churches saw their rent doubled, quadrupled, or worse, with... Continue Reading

Christian Reformed World Relief Committee (CRWRC) i changing its name to World Renew

Written by Staff | Friday, September 21, 2012

Shortly after CRWRC became the denomination’s benevolence organization in 1962, its leaders began to add long-term solutions to extreme global poverty to their emergency disaster efforts, so that emergency assistance and sustainable community-building are carried out collaboratively among vulnerable people groups.     With 50 successful years of international development work and disaster intervention under... The story of the EPC's newest presbytery

Written by The Layman | Thursday, September 20, 2012

With the rapid growth of the presbytery has come a significant number of congregational and pastoral exams. We’ve formed ministry networks and we’ve focused on the building of relationships.” He describes a ministry network as “a cluster of six to eight churches that meet regularly for pastoral support, elder training, joint mission work and,” he... LifeWay surveys Southern Baptist churches’ practices, frequency for celebrating the Lord’s Supper

Finding: Sharp regional differences in the frequency with which Southern Baptist churches conduct the Lord's Supper.

Written by Carol Pipes, Baptist Press | Tuesday, September 18, 2012

Clearly, though, this survey points out a difference between the beliefs expressed in the Baptist Faith and Message, and the Lord's Supper practices of many Southern Baptist churches," McConnell said. Article VII of the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 (SBC.net/bfm) lists baptism as a "prerequisite to the privileges of church membership and to the Lord's Supper." Article VII also says the Lord's Supper is for "members of the church."

SBC President Luter outlines goals during seminary visit

"There's no way we can reach this iPad, iPhone, and iPod generation with eight-track ministry,"

Written by T. Patrick Hudson, Baptist Press | Sunday, September 16, 2012

"What did it take to change you?" he asked the audience. "You had someone share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with you…and you accepted it and were saved! Your life was transformed by the power of the Gospel. And if God can change you, and you, and me, then why can't God change them?"

Incentives to Decline

Why Some Churches Really Don't Want to Grow

Written by John Flowers and Karen Vannoy | Sunday, September 16, 2012

No church members want to see their local congregation die. It would seem that their motivation to keep the church alive would be strong enough to overcome any obstacle, yet each year more churches close their doors while lamenting their fate. It is as if there are counterforces at work against the very changes that would bring new life.

Adopts Statement on the Historicity of Adam; Approve BCO proposal contra Intinction

Written by Staff | Saturday, September 15, 2012

Affirms and preaches that the Scriptures teach that Adam and Eve are as historical individuals as any of us, were immediately created by God through his direct and miraculous intervention, that God formed Adam, the first man, from the dust of the ground, and made Eve directly from Adam without the need of lengthy time nor a naturalistic process to create Adam and Eve in original righteousness and holiness

Family Religion

The Bible is the story of a faithful, covenant-keeping God who uses faithfulness within families.

Written by Mel Duncan | Saturday, September 15, 2012

I recently was privileged to speak at an ancient country church. It was a rural church, the kind with a fine graveyard, an old bell in the steeple, a formal “ladies parlor,” and a nice family in the fellowship hall making pecan pie for those gathered at midweek Bible study.

Even as PCUSA declines, EPC seeks to grow a new presbytery

“As a result there will be 1,000 EPC churches in the U.S. and throughout the world,”

Written by The Layman | Saturday, September 15, 2012

Although congregations give a variety of reasons for leaving, most say the root of dissension rests with what they call an erosion of Scriptural authority following several controversial shifts within the PCUSA.
