First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, SC, Buys SCE&G Building For College Ministry

The onetime customer service center for SCE&G at Marion and Lady Streets has been sold to the church for $4.1 million.

Written by Clif LeBlanc | Sunday, May 24, 2015

Derek Thomas said plans for the three-story, 32,000-square-foot building, formerly a SCE&G customer service center, have not been finalized. A church committee is putting together a formal plan. However, the building probably will include a student library, meeting spaces and a coffee shop.   First Presbyterian Church is the latest downtown Columbia congregation to reach... Continue Reading

United Methodist Body Votes to Change the Church’s Position on Homosexuality by Allowing Clergy to Be ‘Practicing Homosexuals,’ Perform Gay Weddings

The Connectional Table voted 26 to 10 in favor of proposed legislation that would allow clergy to perform gay weddings

Written by Michael Gryboski | Sunday, May 24, 2015

The Discipline also says that clergy can neither bless gay weddings nor can non-celibate homosexuals be ordained. At the UMC’s most recent general conference, held in 2012 in Tampa, Florida, a resolution introduced to change the Discipline’s language on these positions was voted down. But the controversy over the Mainline Protestant denomination’s position on homosexuality continued.... Qualifying ‘The State of the PCA’

A response to Bryan Chapell's ‘State of the PCA’

Written by Dewey Roberts | Sunday, May 24, 2015

If I am to be classified as a traditionalist, here is my definition of it: I believe in a tradition that is derived from the Scripture and has been held by great names in church history. This Scriptural tradition has found its way into the great creeds and confessions of the Church, particularly the Westminster... Continue Reading

Five Reasons Some Pastors Are Loners—And Why That’s Not Good

I have met very few leaders who fell when they were sharing life and ministry with others

Written by Chuck Lawless | Saturday, May 23, 2015

“Jesus always got it right: He knew how to balance His time with the Father and with others. He called individuals, preached to the hundreds, and fed the thousands – all while also patiently investing in a few men. Even in his toughest moments (like the Garden of Gethsemane), He wanted men with Him.”  ... Continue Reading

The Episcopal Church: Undermining the USA from Within

EMM is one of nine major Government contractors making money by bringing in refugees

Written by A.S. Haley | Saturday, May 23, 2015

“Refugees designated to migrate to the United States are advanced travel money by an arm of the U.S. State Department. They land here, and are placed in the hands of (among other agencies) Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM), which helps them relocate into specific communities.”   In my previous post, I detailed the sordid story by... The Free Church of Scotland General Assembly – Day 2

David Robertson was elected as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland

Written by David Robertson | Thursday, May 21, 2015

All in all it was a thrilling day – if somewhat bizarre.  The impression left on my heart is just simply that whether the footman at the door, the Lady at the table, or the beggar on the street – all of them need to hear about and be invited to, the Feast of the... Continue Reading

Will The Real Anglicanism Please Stand Up?

Reformation Anglicanism carries its own distinctive flavor in the milieu of the Reformation

Written by Iain Boyd | Thursday, May 21, 2015

By Reformation Anglicanism, I mean Anglicanism as it developed during the time of the Reformation. Reformation Anglicanism was dominant in the Church of England from the reign of Edward VI through Elizabeth I (of course, with the exception of Mary Tudor’s reign). Reformation Anglicanism was largely formed under the leadership of Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas... Continue Reading

Fourteen Key Reasons for the Breakdown of Church Unity

One of the greatest problems in our churches is the breakdown of church unity

Written by Thom Rainer | Tuesday, May 19, 2015

“I recently heard of a church personnel committee and a few church staff members who worked in darkness to fire a pastor without ever meeting with him first or giving him reasons for his dismissal. Then they refused to respond to church members who were asking questions.”   This post has a negative perspective to it.... Continue Reading

Church of Scotland Votes To Allow Gay Ministers In Civil Partnerships

The General Assembly of the Church of Scotland has voted, 309 – 183, to allow congregations to ordain gay ministers who are in same sex civil partnerships.

Written by BBC | Monday, May 18, 2015

A further vote will be held this week on whether or not to extend ordination to ministers in same sex marriages. Supporters said it was time for the church to be inclusive and recognise the “mixed economy” of modern Scotland. Opponents warned that the move was contrary to God’s law, would prove divisive and lead... Continue Reading

6 Reasons Why Membership Matters

“Why bother with church membership?”

Written by Kevin DeYoung | Monday, May 18, 2015

But it’s not just about being cared for, it’s about making a decision and sticking with it-something my generation, with our oppressive number of choices, finds difficult. We prefer to date the church-have her around for special events, take her out when life feels lonely, and keep her around for a rainy day. Membership is... Continue Reading
