Standpoint Hermeneutics

I am concerned that many key leaders in the SBC and employees in our entities and institutions are on a bad trajectory.

Written by Tom Ascol | Tuesday, July 28, 2020

In the last few years several disturbing reports have surfaced, not only from our seminaries, but also from our agencies and convention meetings, especially with regards to accommodating the culture’s fashionable thinking on race and homosexuality.   A recent lecture on hermeneutics promoted by Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS) reminded me of a scene at... The World Needs More Faithful Men

A faithful man is as valuable and yet as inconspicuous as a beating heart.

Written by Scott Hubbard | Monday, July 27, 2020

If we lack this fruit of the Spirit, we lose every good thing given to us. Our youthful resolves give way to adult indifference, our marriages and ministries slowly wilt, and our best ambitions eventually fade with a sigh. This quality is certainly not the only mark of a godly man, but without it a... Continue Reading

Regather. Rejoice. Lament. Rebuild.

When we come together we should express our delight, and pleasure in God, and our praise of his name that we are back again meeting as his people, with much more work ahead of us.

Written by Andrew Roycroft | Sunday, July 26, 2020

One of the beauties of Ezra 3 is that it does not merely present us with a project, but with progress. The foundation of the temple is established, bricks begin to rise where once rubble had been strewn, there are hints of a new work to be done. The celebrations that vv11-12 depict are not... Arrest Made In Glasgow, Delaware PCA Church Arson

Man started church fire 'out of vengeance and anger,' investigators say.

Written by Esteban Parra and Jeff Neiburg | Saturday, July 25, 2020

Loftis is charged with breaking into the church about 10:40 p.m. Monday [07/20/2020]. The 5-foot-9 man was captured on surveillance video entering the church through a back door, court documents said.  “Once inside he walked through the building throwing equipment and instruments around and was observed inside the sanctuary,” the documents said.   A 29-year-old... Do You Love the Church?

If we bow down to our Lord, as Paul says in Ephesians 3:14, the church will be the church, and our light will pierce the darkness.

Written by R.C. Sproul | Saturday, July 25, 2020

The Apostle Paul explains the doctrine of the church so that we might understand what God has done and so that we may understand who we are. And in calling us to understand who we are and what we’re called to do, Paul says that we’re the church. We’re the church that God ordained from... Continue Reading

A Biblical Case for the Church’s Duty to Remain Open

“Christ is the one true head of His church, and we intend to honor that vital truth in all our gatherings. For that preeminent reason, we cannot accept and will not bow to the intrusive restrictions government officials now want to impose on our congregation.”

Written by John MacArthur | Friday, July 24, 2020

We are to obey our civil authorities as powers that God Himself has ordained. However, while civil government is invested with divine authority to rule the state, neither of those texts (nor any other) grants civic rulers jurisdiction over the church. God has established three institutions within human society: the family, the state, and the... Continue Reading

Why Risk Is Still Right

“If we walk away from risk to keep ourselves safe, we will waste our lives.”

Written by Alex Kocman | Thursday, July 23, 2020

The pandemic has proven that the people of Christ in the West are far too risk-averse, and our risk-aversion is a major reason why we do not send more overseas missionaries, church planters, evangelists, Bible translators, open-air preachers, and abortion mill sidewalk counselors. There is indeed a time to hunker down for safety; “The prudent... Continue Reading

It Only Takes A Moment

It takes time to build a reputation, to earn people’s trust, to gain their confidence. But we can destroy it in a moment.

Written by Peter Bogert | Thursday, July 23, 2020

We often think of moral failure as the reason so many pastors end up losing their reputations and ministries. Some leading figures within the evangelical community have fallen this way, and the damage done to their lives is only exceeded by the damage done to their own churches and to the broader reputation of the... Blaze At Glasgow, Delaware PCA Church Ruled An Arson

A blaze that broke out inside the sanctuary of Reach Church PCA on July 20, 2020 has been ruled arson.

Written by Esteban Perra | Wednesday, July 22, 2020

The fire, which was reported shortly before 11 p.m. Monday, caused about $250,000 in damages. Rev. Chuck L. Betters, the church’s pastor, posted on Facebook that when he arrived at the church Monday, firefighters were cutting holes in the steeple to release the smoke.   A blaze that broke out inside the sanctuary of a... American Nitpickers

"Nitpicker: A pedantic critic; one who searches for and over-emphasizes trivial errors.”

Written by Keith A. Mathison | Tuesday, July 21, 2020

Recognizing and pointing out important errors is not nitpicking. The question I would like to consider is this: Do we ever encounter nitpicking in the church? A better way for each of us to ask this would be, Do I ever engage in nitpicking in regard to the church? Before you answer the question, try a thought experiment.... Continue Reading
