Caleb turns grief into lessons of life

Written by Ace McKay | Sunday, March 21, 2010

In 2008, Will accidentally ran over and killed their little sister, Marie Sue, 5, as he drove the family’s SUV into the driveway. This accident shook the family to its core and showed the strength and faith of the entire Chapman family as they mourned

The two lead members of the band Caleb are beginning to establish their own voice of integrity separate from their famous father, Steven Curtis Chapman.

A drawback to having such a famous parent is that the accomplishments of children are always compared with the success of their parents. But there are also advantages.
Caleb, composed of Will and Caleb Chapman, started as Two-Car Garage. Later they played with their dad’s band. That time on stage with Chapman helped them to craft their skills in music – not to mention giving them access to dad’s input anytime they liked.

Even though Will and Caleb are related to one of the founding fathers of Christian music, Caleb already has a style all their own. The duo blends rock, pop and alternative licks that make it hard to confuse their music from that of their dad’s, even as their lyrics take on some of life’s biggest questions.

Unfortunately, they’ve had an early confrontation with heart-stopping sorrow.

In 2008, Will accidentally ran over and killed their little sister, Marie Sue, 5, as he drove the family’s SUV into the driveway. This accident shook the family to its core and showed the strength and faith of the entire Chapman family as they mourned.
