We all mess up in following Christ. If being a Christian depended on our conduct being perfect, there would be no hope for any of us. Our faith is in Christ, whose conduct was perfect in every respect and we are accepted by God in Him.
In Jeremiah Burroughs’ classic book, The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment, he sets forth practical thoughts and actions to achieve contentment.
While all his material is good, there is one line with which I especially identified, after having had a particularly disappointing day in following Christ.
“Oh, you will be bunglers in this trade of Christianity.”
A bungler is one who messes up and at times may be quite foolish.
