The ARP Magazine is reporting that Dr. Neely Gaston has resigned, effective immediately, as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Erskine Seminary as of Thursday morning, January 20, just prior to the convening of a meeting of members of the Erskine Board of Directors.
The Seminary shares one President and one Board of Directors with its sister institution in Due West, SC – Erskine College. Both are affiliated with the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church
Erskine President Dr. David Norman explained Dr. Neely’s decision in this way:
“Over the past few months, Neely and I have discussed his growing desire to return to pastoral ministry,” said Erskine President David Norman. “This desire, combined with the intensity of the events over the past 18 months at Erskine, has led Neely to this decision.
“A pastor’s heart has been at the core of Neely’s service to Erskine. He has done much to advance and defend her mission. I especially want to thank Neely for his sacrificial and determined service during very difficult times.”
At the next meeting of the full Board of Directors a decision will be made concerning the appointment of an Interim EVP, as well as some long term plans for the Seminary.
Gaston holds a BS degree from Clemson University as well as a Master of Divinity degree from Erskine Seminary. He received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Cornerstone University/Grand Rapids Theological Seminary in Michigan, a yoked institution (similar to Erskine) with Bible Baptist roots. He holds credentials as a minister in the Associate Presbyterian Church.
