Executive Committee of Erskine Board votes to not support any change of governance or its charter

Written by Don K. Clements | Thursday, June 10, 2010

Affirmed:To not support any move to make the Erskine Board a self-perpetuating board.

In response to learning of the call for a Special Meeting of the Board of Erskine College and Seminary (see http://bit.ly/cE6AAd for original story), the Executive Board of Erskine held a called meeting at Bonclarken Conference Center on the evening of June 9, 2010.

As a result of the meeting, the following three affirmations were overwhelmingly approved, to which additional members of the Board present at Synod have indicated their agreement – to bring a total of 15 Board Members agreeing with these affirmations. The affirmations were as follows:

  1. To affirm the governance relationship between Erskine College and Seminary in which the Synod has the full right to freely nominate and elect the members of the Erskine Board of Trustees.
  1. To not support any move to make the Erskine Board a self-perpetuating board.
  1. To not support any amendment to the Charter that would change Synod’s right to freely nominate and elect the members of the Erskine Board of Trustees.

Executive Board member Bill Cain reported this action to the Synod just prior to the lunch break.
