Presbyterian leaders in Pittsburgh reeling from latest exodus

"Theological and spiritual problems are at the root of what is plaguing us."

Written by Ann Rodgers, Post-Gazette | Saturday, December 8, 2012

The most prominent issue was acceptance of local option on gay ordination, but those departing say that changing sexual standards reflect a broader disregard for the biblical authority. Defenders of the changes compare them to earlier reinterpretations of scripture involving women's ordination, divorce and slavery.

Written by Staff | Saturday, December 8, 2012

The Jonathan Edwards Center at Yale University is pleased to announce that, in partnership with William Eerdmans Publishing Company, it will be producing A Jonathan Edwards Encyclopedia.

Conservative Evangelicals in CofE call for the appointment of a bishop to minister to their community

Great indeed are the hopes and expectations being focused upon recently selected Archbishop Welby

Written by James Ramsey, VirtueOnline | Saturday, December 8, 2012

But now there is a problem. Wallace Benn, the last conservative evangelical bishop in the whole of the Church of England who opposes women's ordination was appointed fifteen years, and has now retired

A year of ‘Christian’ stunts

Any “walk in the shoes” experiment is empty without the call to turn away from sin.

Written by La Shawn Barber, WNS | Saturday, December 8, 2012

I condemn adultery, and my guess is anyone who’s been personally affected by its damaging effects will hate this particular sin with a special kind of hatred. I think I can land a book deal if I spend a year advocating death for adulterers, blasphemers, and Sabbath-breakers. What do you think?

St. George’s Tron, Glasgow, agrees to give church property to Church of Scotland

Congregation gives up six-month battle and leaves church

Written by Craig Brown, The Scotsman | Saturday, December 8, 2012

The war of words continued yesterday, with St George’s Tron alleging that the sheriff court officer “stormed” a prayer meeting involving 100 people and “dragged out” its minister, the Rev Dr Willie Philip, to serve the court citation on him.

The Biblical Case for Reparative Therapy

So, can people change from gay to straight, or is grace inert? Thousands have changed.

Written by James Arlandson, American Thinker | Saturday, December 8, 2012

The important point in those three verses is that some of these specific Corinthians used to be part of the gay community ("some of you were once like that"). But they became new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17). They were no longer gay, or at least they no longer practiced homosexuality. That male prostitute near the Moulin Rouge could have trusted in the reality behind this passage.

Oh to Grace How Great a Debtor — A Reply to Tullian Tchividjian

"Please don't use the term 'total depravity' for regenerate Christians"

Written by Rick Phillips | Friday, December 7, 2012

To say that Christians are able (by God’s grace in Christ) to exert effort towards sanctification, and to experience increased strength and competency in doing so, is not a sub-biblical approach to sanctification that should be suspected of self-reliance. Rather, it is the essential biblical doctrine of sanctification.   I was glad to see some... Continue Reading

Pastoral Ministry: A Sure Way to Be Dishonored

Every pastor, unless he is surrounded by others who shield him from criticism, has dozens of heart-breaking stories

Written by Ed Welch, CCEF | Friday, December 7, 2012

This does not excuse the disrespectful things that congregants say. Such disrespect is a pernicious evil that we can leave for another day. At this point, please be encouraged that you are experiencing some of the natural overflow of the sufferings of Jesus, which means you are honored. Those who dishonor you are the ones who will be called to account.

Family and faith energized Dave Brubeck

"I didn’t convert to Catholicism,” he said, “because I wasn’t anything to convert from."

Written by Warren Cole Smith, WNS | Friday, December 7, 2012

In 2010, Brubeck’s 90th year, his quartet won DownBeat magazine’s readers’ poll as the best group in jazz—57 years after the original Dave Brubeck Quartet won the same award.

Rev. John Shaw of St. Paul, MN has church planting experience going back to childhood

Written by Staff | Friday, December 7, 2012

John can tell boyhood stories about setting up chairs for worship services in rented halls and of meeting for Sunday school classes in the stairwells of borrowed bank buildings in Dayton, Columbus, and Mansfield, Ohio.
