Stand … or fall!

What then does the PCUSA stand for, because it would appear that she’s prone to fall for anything.

Written by Carmen Fowler LaBerge, The Layman | Sunday, June 24, 2012

The General Assembly Permanent Judicial Commission decision says that there is no clear, discernible standard in God’s Word upon which the entire denomination can be held to account. Each ordaining body may decide for itself those standards, on a case by case basis, when faced with an ordinand.

A New Or Renewed Church in Scotland – Part 2

Additional thoughts on St. George's Tron, Glasgow (and others) leaving the Church of Scotland

Written by David Robertson | Sunday, June 24, 2012

Firstly it means that we could really do without yet another Presbyterian denomination in Scotland. Presbyterians are brilliant at speaking about church unity and using lots of fine sounding words. But boy are we good at setting up new denominations in the name of unity! Moving away from Scotland I was astounded to read about yet another Presbyterian denomination being set up in the

Affirming the necessity of retaining Bible translations to Muslims that use the biologically familial terms of "Father" and "Son"

Written by Don K. Clements | Sunday, June 24, 2012

Muslim Idiom Translations have translated these terms with such substitutes as "representative" and "guardian." This action will give guidance to churches supporting translation work, a resource to our mission agency, and place pressure on translation agencies to hold to biblical standards for translation.

A Tale of Two Resolutions on the “Sinner’s Prayer”

That we promote any and all biblical means of urging sinners to call on the name of the Lord in a prayer of repentance and faith

Written by Dr. Tom Ascol | Sunday, June 24, 2012

To make it easier for you to compare the resolution that was submitted to the one that was adopted, I have reproduced them both below. Hopefully, this will help clear up some confusion and prevent further misrepresentation of what happened in New Orleans regarding the "sinner's prayer" resolution.

Evangelical Presbyterian Church has grown from 182 to 364 churches in five years

Executive presbyters in the PCUSA know of 800 churches in the discernment or dismissal process

Written by Carmen Fowler LaBerge, The Layman | Sunday, June 24, 2012

The Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) voted unanimously to elect the Rev. Jeffrey Jeremiah to a third term as its stated clerk. In his remarks to the assembly, meeting this week at First Presbyterian Church, Baton Rouge, Jeremiah said that five years ago (2007) the EPC had 182 churches. Today, that number has literally doubled to 364.

You Cannot Be Spiritual Without Being Religious

The spiritual person understands spiritual truths. He receives what the Spirit imparts

Written by Kevin DeYoung | Sunday, June 24, 2012

The spiritual person discerns spiritual things, starting with the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ on the cross for sinners like you and me. To accept this gospel, with all its doctrinal and religious contours, is the beginning of true spirituality. For in the end, our slogans and endless searching do not count for much, neither does our interest in reading Chicken Soup for the Soul.

On the docket for the Reformed Church in America’s General Synod

Women's ordination and homosexuality

Written by Matt Vande Bunte., MLive | Sunday, June 24, 2012

The report cites that in some cases the church has subjected aspiring female ministers to more scrutiny than male candidates, and ordination has been delayed in other cases because some church leaders opposed to women in ministry have refused to attend examination meetings.

Religious liberty is not optional

Catholic Bishops launch 'Fortnight for Freedom'

Written by William E. Lori, WashPo | Sunday, June 24, 2012

According to HHS, an entity deserves religious freedom only if it primarily hires and primarily serves its co-religionists. But the state has no competence or authority to define the church and her ministries, let alone to impose on her such a restrictive, inward-looking definition.

Diabetes diagnosis motivates “Tennessean” reporter to change his life

Bob is our most frequently reprinted religion reporter from a daily newspaper

Written by Bob Smietana, The Tennessean | Sunday, June 24, 2012

A mile into my workout at the gym and I start dreaming of cake. Chocolate cake with buttercream frosting that’s chilled but not frozen — cold enough so the cake and frosting are firm and rich and so sweet that you can get lost in the flavor. And French fries, crinkle-cut and just snatched from the deep fryer, so crispy that they almost snap when you take a bite. With buckets of ketchup on the side and a Blue Moon beer with a slice of orange to wash them down.

9.5 Principles to Follow

Written by K. W. “Pete” Hurst | Sunday, June 24, 2012

At times, I’ve come across the person who says he wants to find work without anyone’s help; this is prideful and also impossible. If this is you, repent of your foolishness.
