An Open Invitation from PCA Mission to the World Medical Missionaries

Join a Medical Missions trip to Speak to Young Christian Medical Professionals in Ukraine

Written by Staff | Friday, July 13, 2012

Conference is being organized for October 27 and 28, 2012. Dr. Wiley Smith and Dr. Sharon Kuhn will be attending as family physicians, but they would love to have a contingent of other specialists, pharmacists, nurses, and the like to come with them to speak. Present students would be welcome too.

Last October Dr. Wiley Smith had opportunity to be a speaker at a conference for medical students in Ukraine. Organized by students themselves, the conference attracted 400 students representing 35 nationalities. The students were studying in schools of medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, nursing, physical therapy and other disciplines.

Although it was billed as a Christian conference, we had other faiths represented. It was a wonderful time to talk about how to integrate Christ into our practice. Dr. Smith had opportunities to share his faith with non-Christian students, who were quite curious about what Christians believe. A Muslim student asked if Christ could forgive all types of sin, and how this could be.

Another such conference is being organized for October 27 and 28, 2012. Dr. Smith and Dr. Sharon Kuhn from Augusta will be attending as family physicians, but they would love to have a contingent of other specialists, pharmacists, nurses, and the like to come with them to speak. Present students would be welcome too. Interested people may contact Dr. Wiley Smith at email [email protected].

Below is the invitation to Dr. Wiley Smith from the organizing committee, along with some pics from last year’s conference.

Last fall God blessed our time in Ternopil at the 2nd International Conference for Young Christian Medical Professionals in Ukraine. Those participating are still talking about the impact this particular conference had on their lives. This was an important step with strategic implications not just for Ukraine but the many other countries represented from Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

Therefore, on behalf of the organizing committee for this year’s conference, I would like to invite you to once again personally participate or send a representative(s) who could teach some aspect of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry or other allied health profession and most importantly be able to incorporate a Christian perspective and model what role their faith plays in their profession. We really need strong role models to provide the needed encouragement to these young people.
The conference will take place in Chernivtsi in southwestern Ukraine on October 27th and 28th. The theme of this year’s conference is “Medicine, Christianity, Today’s Challenges.” As it was last year, English will be the main language.

The organizers are anticipating about 350 participants. The goal is to expose students and recent graduates to medical professionals who can teach their academic subject with a Christian viewpoint and model how to be a compassionate medical professional. With emphasis on strong academics the organizers hope to attract non-believing students as well.

The leader of the organizing committee in Chernivtsi is Joseph Ansong, a medical student beginning his final year. I will once again be serving as an adviser to this group.

We look forward to working with you again. We are praying for your recruiting others to be part of your team.

By His grace and for His glory,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee,
Jim Peipon
President and Medical Director
