I am thankful for the United States of America. I will celebrate 250 years of blessing on our nation. I will watch Trump’s parades in Washington, D.C. However, I am very concerned that with the decline of Christianity, with a secular Constitution being weaponized against us, and with the rise of false religions in the United States, we as a nation cannot long endure.
This summer the United States will celebrate 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Being born and raised in the United States, I have enjoyed the great blessings of God on our nation. I plan to celebrate too, albeit, with great reservation.
The reason for my reservation is that about a decade after the signing of the Declaration of Independence a total of 55 men gathered together in Philadelphia to form the governing principles for this new nation. The United States Constitution was officially ratified on June 21, 1788, after nine of the thirteen states voted to approve this new document.
I hold the position that the United States Constitution was a secular document; not a Christian document. As such it contained the seeds of destruction. For nations, as well as for individuals, the words of Jesus must be taken seriously, “The one who is not for Me is against Me, and the one who does not gather with Me scatters (Mt. 12:30).” As seed lies silent in the ground for a period of time with its visible impact delayed, the outcome of a secular constitution would not be known until the fruit became evident. That time has come—250 years later.
Most of the framing fathers were nominal Christians enamored more by the Enlightenment than by the Christian Faith. Even old Ben Franklin’s request for prayer to God was denied by the convention. Because of their nominal Christian faith, they incorporated Article VI, Clause 3 which says that “no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Officers of public Trust under the United States.” In the Constitution, the inability of the President on Sundays to sign into law bills passed by Congress was a result of a tradition left over by a changing Christian culture.
Proponents of a “Christian Constitution Theory” point out that the majority of states had in their own Constitutions a religious test which required a vow to the Christian Faith, and they argue that this was sufficient.
Others defend the Christian nature of the Constitution by saying it was neutral. However, if I am establishing something God has ordained, how can I ignore the sovereign ownership of God. It is part of my worship of God to recognize him in print. My family is not a neutral family, but a Christian family. My church is not a neutral church but a Christian Church. My local pro-life organization (of which I was a founder) intentionally chose the name Abortion Alternative Christian Services (AACS). How can we leave out the name of Christ in anything under his authority, especially a nation?
The grave error of our forefathers was the failure to require in the Constitution a sacred oath to the Triune God of the Bible in order to hold office in both the United States and in State civil governments. This was the seed of destruction. The God of the Bible and his Law were ignored. There was no standard but the whims of men that blow with the wind. So, it is today.
As doctrinal Christianity declined in America and as pietism increased, the secular document of the United States Constitution would become a weapon used to usurp the domination of the Christian Faith.
The original Constitution served America well as long as America was saturated with the Christian Faith. Even a secular document works well in a Chrisitan culture. The federal Constitution was subservient to state Constitutions until the addition of Fourteenth Amendment which granted citizenship to former black slaves. This amendment to the Constitution later became a tool in the hands of the Supreme Court to nullify the legality of basic Christian beliefs.
The Fourteenth Amendment became the legal weapon to justify the murder of 65 million babies in the womb, and also a justification to sanction the legalization of homosexual marriage. It became a declaration of war on Christianity.
Today, we live in a society ridden by crime, pornography, unstainable debt, welfare fraud, and DEI—a society at war with the God of the Bible. We have become a polytheistic nation where all religions are treated as being equal, contrary to the exclusivity claim of Christ.
Islam is on a pathway to replace Christianity in America and everyone turns a blind eye because we are too comfortable in our own little world. If we would grant that there was an intent to protect Protestant pluralism in those early days, then because the Constitution has been detached from the God of the Bible, such an intent no longer exists, and the Constitution is now being used as a justification for religious polytheism.
The State of Texas is using every means possible (including zoning laws) to stop the construction of a gigantic Muslim-Epic City, but they have no valid arguments from the Constitution. Paltry local laws cannot overturn the Constitutional right of Muslims to construct the City. They were given that right when the Constitution was written.
The Church has given tacit approval of polytheism by remaining silent on this crucial issue. If Jesus is not King over all, then He is not King at all. The second commandment has in essence been nullified by our Christian leaders who remain silent in the church and in the public square.
