Orthodoxy calls you into the reality of eternal things, and the benefits are eternal too. To leave Christ is to forfeit your soul, but in Christ even death is gain. May God open blind eyes to the blandness of rebellion, and give men and women a taste for the wildness of orthodoxy.
Everywhere we look, there are people deconverting, deconstructing, and running to some new and interesting heresy. They fashion themselves as wild and free. They have shaken off the shackles of orthodox Christianity, and now they pursue their own unique experience. They march to the beat of their own drum, and like to think that they are charting a new course. But I want to call a spade a spade. Those who run from orthodoxy (read here the sound doctrine of historic Christianity) are really the least interesting. The ones who are living the wild life are those who have tethered themselves to old paths. There is a wildness in orthodoxy.
Those who leave orthodoxy have to ask themselves what have they left it for? What are they running towards? And if they asked genuinely, most who leave orthodoxy leave it for the comfort of conformity to the world. This “new” life might seem radical, but it comes with the applause of every late night TV host and every social media company. It falls in line with the status quo of the most popular ideas of the time. Rebellion is in style right now, so rebellion is really just a way of saying, “I want to be popular and just like everyone else.” No. Chasing the world does not make you wild and free. It makes you a slave to the culture, and the most boring person alive.
