Regent University School of Law’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Board (ADR) made a strong showing at the ABA National Negotiation Competition held earlier this month in n Orlando, FL.

Out of 215 teams from the 112 law schools that entered the tournament last fall, Regent’s second year law student team of David Crossett and Mary Katherine Bratton finished among the top 8 in the nation.

At the regional level, Regent advanced from a pack including teams from Georgetown, George Mason, Washington & Lee, William & Mary, Maryland, Penn State, and Widener. At the national level, Regent finished ahead of teams from Pepperdine, Fordham, U.Cal-Davis, Ohio State, University of Minnesota, Texas Tech, the University of Miami and the University of Oregon, among others.

Team coach, Law Professor Eric DeGroff, commented on Bratton and Crossett’s exemplary performance.

“Our team was able to zealously represent their clients within the bounds of the law and with integrity,” he said. “They balanced making a strong case and presenting their client in the best possible light while being very careful to speak the truth. Thanks to the work David and Mary Katherine devoted to the competition and to the efforts of the entire Board, our team was very well prepared.”

Other recent Regent Advocacy Skills Board wins include the 2009 Merhige National Environmental Negotiation Competition, the 2009 National Pretrial Advocacy Competition, and the 2009 & 2008 William B. Spong Competition.
