We at Trinity Presbyterian Church of Northern Kentucky (PCA) are gaining a reputation as the little church that can. Through the grace of our Lord and the strength of His hand, Trinity, in just a few short years, has blazed a trail of growth, church planting, and bringing the Gospel to the world via the internet that many older and larger churches might envy; all of this without a place to call our own.
Trinity has enjoyed a warm cordial relationship with the Creation Museum in Petersburg Kentucky where we have been renting space for Sunday morning worship since Easter Sunday 2010. But, in true Trinity fashion, that may soon change.
Our congregation has voted to pursue the purchase of a landmark church building first dedicated to the Glory of God in August of 1893. The former St. Boniface Church of Ludlow Kentucky, with its 150-foot-tall bell tower and steeple, its beautiful stained glass windows and its cavernous sanctuary, may soon be the home of our “historical worship in the Genevan tradition”.
Our members visited the church a few weeks ago. As the children of our church began investigating every nook and cranny of the buildings, they soon had a competition to see who could make the tower bells ring.
The highlight of that visit was when Pastor Hickey passed out song books and the congregation filled the sanctuary with glorious praise of our Lord singing “For All the Saints” and the “98th Psalm”. Passersby stopped in front of the open doors to listen. It was nothing less than inspiring.
Much work needs be done. Before the vote at our congregational meeting Rick Paffrath, member of the building committee, presented a time line of events, financial needs, operating budgets, and immediate repairs that must be done to stabilize the buildings. Lawrence McCord, committee member and newly elected trustee, encouraged the congregation to pray. He brought clarity to the situation when he said, “If a wrecking ball takes this building, there will never be another like it in Ludlow and maybe not in all of Northern Kentucky”.
Ken Patrick, committee member and another trustee gave a vision of the impact our congregation might have on the Ludlow community. Our congregation hails from as far north as Centerville Ohio just South of Dayton, to Union Kentucky, south of Florence, to southeast Indiana, but we will have a presence in Ludlow, a community in need of the Gospel and the charities that are inherent with that commitment to Christ. We pray that we might build a parish community around our new home.
By this vote we, the congregation, have committed ourselves to, living with imperfections for a season, Saturday workdays, fund raising, reaching out to the community, and a dedication to the vision presented in the catechism of glorifying God and enjoying Him forever.
Join us in prayer for this endeavor. We hope to build a home for our church and a haven for those whom God would bring.
Editor’s Note: Ludlow is a very central location for greater Cincinatti. It is on KY Route 8, the riverside road that runs along the Ohio River. It is very close (just over a mile) to the first Kentucky exit as you come over the river from Cincinnati on I-75/I-71
