Four ‘Sheds of Hope’ will be built on the grounds of The Hotel Louisville…[{not far from] convention center. The sheds, when completed, will be transported to families in need in [nearby southern Indiana]. General Assembly attendees are invited to participate or, if you prefer, just come watch the progress……Free trolley service is available and a buffet lunch will be available for $5.00 at the hotel.
THE PROJECT: The Sheds of Hope project was born in response to needs presented by disasters and has become a defining ministry for the PCA. Mission to North America Disaster Response has helped build over 700 Sheds of Hope in just a few short years at various recovery sites across the US. After a disaster, property owners need a place to store personal belongings that they are able to recover. They also need a place to store tools and supplies used in the repair or rebuilding of their home. Sheds of Hope are inexpensive units that can be built on site or can be constructed off site and transported to a disaster area where most needed. If the property owner decides to build at another location, the shed can be transported to their new residence as well. This project has been developed by MNA Disaster Response in partnership with many presbyteries and churches across the country.
THE NEED: On March 2, 2012, an EF-4 tornado destroyed much of Henryville IN, a bedroom community of Louisville KY, the host city of the 40th General Assembly. The picture below shows just a portion of the impact this tornado had on this community.
THE OPPORTUNITY: Although there is not a PCA church in Henryville, the geography belongs to the PCA. Every square inch of the US and Canada is assigned to a PCA presbytery and the PCA is serious about advancing the life saving gospel of Jesus Christ to every person in word and deed. There is a plan developing that will someday plant a mission work for the residents in Henryville.
THE PLAN: The churches of the Central Indiana Presbytery, Ohio Valley Presbytery and Home Repairs Ministries (a ministry launched out of Perimeter Church from the Metro Atlanta Presbytery), in partnership with MNA Disaster Response, are hosting a mercy ministry opportunity, Sheds of Hope, during the 2012 PCA General Assembly in Louisville KY. This project is being held at the request of the General Assembly Host Committee.
Four Sheds of Hope will be built on the grounds of The Hotel Louisville, just six short blocks from the convention center. The sheds, when completed, will be transported to families in need in Henryville.
TO PARTICIPATE: General Assembly participants are invited to participate or, if you prefer, just come watch the progress. Bring your gloves and hammer, if possible. Junior high or senior high participants must be accompanied by a parent. Free trolley service is available and a buffet lunch will be available for $5.00 at The Hotel Louisville. The building site will be open from 10am to 2pm on Monday through Thursday.
Come, learn about this exciting project and see how Sheds of Hope can be implemented by your local presbytery or church as an outreach to families in need in your local community.
