Llew was preceded in death by his mother and father, Otto and Effie Fischer, of Clifton Forge, Va.; sisters, Lillian Osman, Margaret Lee, Jackie Lindsey, and Dorothy Luck; and brother, Michael “Mickey” Fischer.
Llew was born in Clifton Forge, Va., in 1923 and immediately following high school moved to Norfolk, Va., to start work at the Norfolk Naval Air Station. During World War II, Llew served in the United States Army Air Corps stationed in England as a flight engineer on a B17 aircraft. Llew formed flight crew friendships that lasted his entire life.
Following military service, Llew worked for the Federal Government until he retired in 1975 as a Division Director of the Naval Air Systems Command. While a resident of Norfolk he served as a pilot for the Civil Air Patrol and was an active leader in a number of Christian, Scout and Civic organizations.
Upon retiring from federal service Llew and his bride, Jackie, moved to the Roanoke area where he became involved in many church and civic organizations including the Gideon’s and Kiwanis. During this period he applied for a TV station construction permit which was granted for WVFT 27 after a struggle of over eight years. Llew then sold his interest in the station and became the Stated Clerk and Coordinator of Church Development for the Presbytery of the Mid Atlantic of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. After the closure of the EPC Church in Salem, Virginia in 1998, Lew and his wife joined Westminster Church (PCA) in Roanoke and have been active there since that time.
