We thank you again for standing with us in praying for the ministry in the Czech Republic. The Lord is using your prayers in our lives, as well as in the lives of our many Czech friends. Please continue to pray. The Lord tells us in Paul’s words from I Corinthians that we should always give ourselves fully to the work of the Lord. There is, perhaps, no harder work than the work of prayer. It takes much faith and perseverance to continue to pray, especially when we don’t see the answers readily forthcoming. Yet the Lord encourages us in this same passage by telling us that our labor, if it’s done in His strength and for His glory, is never in vain. Therefore we continue to persevere, and we thank you for faithfully standing with us by persevering in your prayers for us.
Below you will find the prayer items for the months of September and October. We are so grateful for your continued prayers, as they are such a vital channel of God’s grace and mercy into our lives and into the ministry here.
SEPTEMBER 2009
1, 2 & 3 – We praise the Lord for two wonderful weeks of English camp. The fellowship was simply delightful. All the team members did an amazing job in their various areas of responsibility. They were wonderful testimonies of God’s grace to our many unbelieving friends. Many lives were touched, and the journey toward true faith and a true relationship with Jesus Christ is continuing in the hearts and minds of so many of these dear friends. Praise the Lord for a harvest which is yet to come! We can see it by faith. And your prayers will make it effectual.
4, 5 & 6 – Please continue to pray for the Holy Spirit to work powerfully in the hearts and minds of our Czech friends so that they might come to understand their desperate condition apart from Christ and cry out to Him for His amazing grace and mercy.
7, 8 & 9 – We praise God for protecting Diana in a serious fall at our first English camp. While trying to step off a platform, she misjudged the distance and fell, seriously injuring her hip. As you might remember, Diana is our crippled friend who weighs about 70 pounds. Over the last five weeks, the Lord has brought complete healing to Diana, to the point that she can now walk again without the use of crutches, but with only the use of her cane. She says she has no pain. Praise the Lord for all of this.
10, 11 & 12 – We praise and thank the Lord for all the team members who came for our two English camps this summer. Please give thanks with us for Ruth Baldwin, Alan and Sally Carter, Jered Faires, Johnny and Annette Johnson, Jennie Kraker, Pattie Martin, Carl and Brenda Potts, Tina Shelton, Amy Shipman, and Alex Webster (stateside). We also give thanks to the Lord for Sandy Pollard who wanted to come but was prevented from coming due to a serious illness.
13, 14 & 15 – Please pray for all of these dear friends as they consider, even now, returning next summer for one or both of our camps. Their hard work, their diligence, their vibrant testimony of faith in Christ – all of these were used in wonderful ways to speak to our Czech friends of the reality of Christ. Please pray that the many seeds which were sown would, in God’s perfect time, bear wonderful fruit for the kingdom and for God’s glory. Pray for wisdom, strength, and perseverance as we seek to do follow-up work with those who attended the English camps.
16, 17 & 18 – We praise the Lord that Johnny and Annette Johnson are steadily moving ahead in their journey to working with us here in the Czech Republic. Their support level has risen to 25%. Their desire is to move to Zlín by April of 2010. Please pray with us that the Lord, in His mercy and in His perfect timing, would bring them here by that time.
19, 20 & 21 – Pray for an upcoming women’s conference in the Czech Republic with Susan Hunt. Christian women here need much encouragement; their numbers are so small. Pray for those who are preparing for this conference and, above all, for the Lord to do more than we can ask or think.
22, 23 & 24 – The Deutschmanns praise God for a wonderful time with their family in the US. It has been such a joy for them to be able to see most of their children and to be able to hold and love their grandchildren, especially the two newest additions, Carter and Natalie, whom they had not held previously. They are so grateful for this opportunity and privilege.
25, 26 & 27 – Please continue to pray for Eliška, her husband Marek, and their little daughter Alžběta. She is the young woman from our church who is struggling with cancer. We pray for the Lord to heal her, and yet we ultimately submit to His perfect will. Pray for them to trust the Lord and, as they do, to experience His peace and comfort.
28, 29, 30 & 31 – We are making progress with broadcasting the Gospel in Uganda. KTR FM broadcasts the Gospel every day in five languages. We have completed more than two and one half years of daily broadcasting without any serious technical breakdowns! Praise the Lord for this! However, we have been troubled recently by theft of property belonging to the radio station. Pray that the Lord would protect this work, and that the thieves might be successfully apprehended and brought to repentance.
OCTOBER 2009
1, 2 & 3 – Please also pray for Erik and Denia Boehm as they will not be coming to Zlín to join us in the work here, at least not in the immediate future. We are very sad over this course of events, and yet we know that the Lord is leading them perfectly. Please pray that they would continue to seek His guidance and that they would clearly discern the Lord’s leading in their lives. We have come to treasure this dear family and will continue to pray for them. Perhaps the Lord, in His perfect timing, will bring them here by some other means. We know that He will do what is best in their lives and in the ministry here.
4, 5 & 6 – Praise the Lord for spiritual and numerical growth in the Reformed Church in Zlín, where we are serving. Two men have shown remarkable growth in Christ. Martin Keller paid his own way to Uganda recently where he continued to pursue his interest in working with orphans there. Martin has also journeyed to Prague where he has worked to renew the apartment of Diana Strnadová. Praise the Lord for a deacon in the making. Martin is ready, but our church needs to recognize him formally as a deacon. Rejoice with us in what the Lord has done in Martin’s heart.
7, 8 & 9 – Peter Štica recently preached his first sermon in the Reformed Church of Zlín. Rejoice with us in how Peter has grown in the Lord since his conversion only about two years ago. Pray for the Lord’s continued leading in Peter’s life.
10, 11 & 12 – Praise the Lord for Pastor René and his family. Continue to pray for him as he shoulders many responsibilities for his family, our little Reformed church, and for the Zlín extension of Martin Bucer Seminary.
13, 14 & 15 – Please pray for the Deutschmanns as they will be leaving the US on the 13th and will arrive back in Zlín on the 15th. Please pray for protection and for a quick adjustment from jet lag as the new school year will begin on Monday, October 19.
16, 17 & 18 – Please continue to pray for the session of the Reformed Church in Zlín. We are making progress but need to pray together more and assume more leadership in the church.
19, 20 & 21 – We praise the Lord for the beginning of another school year at English Plus+. Continue to pray for the many seeds that have been sown over these past five years and for the seeds that will again be sown this year, that the Lord would cause hearts and lives to be touched with the life-transforming message of grace, healing, mercy, and forgiveness. Please pray that people would come to see their desperate need for Christ.
22, 23 & 24 – Please pray for a mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit in all the spiritual deserts of this world, including the Czech Republic. Please also pray that God would tear down the barriers that exist throughout the world against the free and open proclamation of the amazing gospel of Jesus Christ.
25, 26 & 27 – Please pray for God’s protection over His people who are being severely persecuted in many parts of the world, but especially in Muslim, Hindu, and Communist countries.
28 & 29 – Please continue to pray for Johnny and Annette Johnson, that the Lord would sustain and strengthen them during this rigorous phase of raising support. We are looking forward to working together with much eager anticipation. Praise the Lord for sending them to us to help with English teaching and church planting.
30 & 31 – At the end of November we will be holding a winter English camp. It will actually be on the Thanksgiving weekend, November 26th – 29th. Please pray for us as we seek to organize this camp, that the Lord would send the people that He wants to be there, and that the classes, fellowship, evening talks, and times of worship would be used by Him to change hearts and minds.

Let nothing move you.
Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord,
