In the article that Mr. Sharman writes, he claims at the end that any Christian can be exempt from the new health care law if they want to be — all they have to do is live a Christian lifestyle.
This is absolutely not true. These ‘health share ministries’ are not truly Christian in that they exclude all Christians from sharing if they already have a health condition…..EVEN IF IT IS A HEALTH PROBLEM TOTALLY UNRELATED TO LIFESTYLE.
My parents were Christian missionaries overseas during my entire childhood and when I graduated from college I began working in human services. I became a Christian at a young age, praise be to God, and because of living a Christian lifestyle right through my teens and young adulthood I have been spared many of the ill effects that can
come from sinful living.
My husband and I will have been married for 25 years this summer and we have been raising our children in the faith. We have been so blessed to have these children and after starting in public school felt we should begin homeschooling. Several years later my husband became ill with an extremely painful neurological condition that has no known cause and no known cure. He finally had to stop working. He continues to suffer in spite of many prayers for healing.
Just before that I too came down with a condition that requires ongoing monitoring and treating but is not anything terminal or real expensive. I applied to TWO of these health
care sharing ministries FOR MYSELF ONLY and both turned me down. (my children are on Medicaid and my husband now is eligible for Medicare)
So…..I cannot be exempt since my own Christian brothers and sisters won’t take me.
I think this should be pointed out in future articles so that other Christians in my position who may not be as mature and understanding as I am do have their faith damaged from the hypocrisy of their advertisements. In the love of Christ daily,
