On Monday, November 7, 2011, Covenant College’s Center for Calling & Career will host an informational meeting and reception for Aileen H. Riady, founder of Sekolah Pelita Harapan (SPH), a school system that is reaching Indonesians through Christ-centered education.
This will be the third consecutive year that Riady brings delegates from SPH to recruit Covenant alumni to come teach in their schools.
“Theologically-equipped and passionate Christian teachers are rare, and a blessing when you find them,” says Riady. “I find Covenant to be truly one of God’s preserved remnants in Christ-centered training. They are faithful in preparing teachers to daily proclaim the preeminence of Christ in the classrooms, and in preparing our future generation, called to be God’s agents in His redemptive restoration work. I always look forward to visiting Covenant on my recruitment trips.”
A Covenant alumna, Rebekah Schmidt ’10, currently teaches at SPH and spoke with passion about her work there: “My contract is for another year, but if I am offered a continuation, I think I will stay for many more years. I think God will have to push me out of Indonesia the same way He pushed me into it.”
The event begins at 5:15 p.m. at the Mayor’s Mansion Inn, at 801 Vine Street, in downtown Chattanooga, TN. Hors d’oeuvres will be served, and complimentary parking is available in the Mayor’s Mansion Inn private lot, as well as in the UTC lot across the street.
Alumni who have considered teaching or leading in Christian education internationally are invited to attend and learn more about this unique opportunity. Teaching at SPH does not require raising financial support, but it does require investing in a largely Muslim culture in order to advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
