For the past decade, Daniel Cason Ministries has been offering music lessons to inner-city children, giving away clothes and groceries and serving lunches Tuesdays through Thursdays at his ministry center west of downtown. He also organizes an annual Thanksgiving feast at Boutwell Auditorium that includes giveaways of groceries and clothing.
Inspired by Cason’s work, 420 families from Briarwood Presbyterian participate in cooking and bringing food and volunteering as servers at the event, called “I Cared Enough.” The event will be held Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Boutwell Auditorium, with meals served at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. as part of evangelistic services featuring gospel music.
“It’s going to be a Thanksgiving feast where everyone sits down and is served,” Cason said. “It will not be like a soup kitchen meal.”
Many families will line up for free groceries, clothes, health screenings and haircuts. Last year’s event drew more than 3,000. “It’s a day of giving thanks,” Cason said.
