Mr. Snowden retired from Highland Park High School in 1996 and became athletic director and dean of students at Providence Christian School, where he coached the children of many of his former students.
Robert Howard “Bo” Snowden III built a legacy teaching American history, coaching basketball and inspiring students at Highland Park High School.
While many basketball fans know him for coaching his players to a 393-133 record, he motivated students across the campus with his building of character.
Mr. Snowden, 73, died Sunday of complications of cancer at his Dallas home. A memorial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Park Cities Presbyterian Church, where he was a member. He donated his remains to the Willed Body Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Mr. Snowden was diagnosed with multiple myeloma on Jan. 14.
“Developing character was his forte – both as a teacher and a coach,” said Kirk Dooley, who writes a community column for The Dallas Morning News. He had Mr. Snowden as a teacher in the classroom and as a coach on the court.
“Because of that, he’s got a lot of former students who thought the world of him.”
Mr. Snowden was dedicated to each of his players and students, said his wife, Judy Snowden.
“They saw his faith and his faith in them; the dedication that he had to each student,” Mrs. Snowden said. “He was instilling character and integrity and humility in his players and students.”
