“I cannot imagine moms and dads wanting their children to be part of a military that pushes the homosexual agenda at every turn”
The Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty expressed astonishment Friday that U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta violated Department of Defense instructions concerning the wearing of military uniforms.
Panetta granted approval to an Air Force reservist to march in the San Diego Gay Pride Parade this weekend despite DoD regulations that do not permit the wearing of a military uniform during such an event, prompting some to wonder how DoD will determine the venues in which personnel can march in uniform going forward.
“The current leadership of DoD continues to push the military as a social experiment at the cost of good order and discipline,” said CH (COL) Ron Crews, USAR retired, executive director of the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty. “‘Gay pride’ parades are not the time and place for military members to wear their uniforms. All you have to do is look at videos of the last few San Diego Gay Pride parades on YouTube and see that this event does not meet the guidelines that the DoD established in 2005 concerning the wearing of the uniform at public events. Will wearing the uniform at Gay Pride Parades bring credit to the Armed Forces?”
“I cannot imagine moms and dads wanting their children to be part of a military that pushes the homosexual agenda at every turn,” Crews added.
The decision follows recent moves by the DoD to allow same-sex ceremonies in military chapels over the objections of chaplains and chapel congregations.
Ron Crews is a retired Army Reserve Chaplain who serves as Executive Director of The Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty. TCA is an organization of chaplain endorsers, the faith groups that provide chaplains for the U.S. military and other agencies needing chaplains. The endorsers in the Chaplain Alliance speak for more than 2,000 chaplains serving the armed forces.
