“I have chaperoned Covenant College forensics club trips for two years now,” said Staff Advisor Tim Mahla, “and I can’t imagine a better group of students representing Covenant College.”

Covenant’s Debate Society competed in the 2011 National Christian College Forensics Invitational (NCCFI), hosted by Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California. Covenant brought home eleven awards, including: Second place overall debate sweepstakes (Division II), second place parliamentary debate speaker points (Sarah Swygard ’13), third place open extemporaneous speaking (Zach Robbins ’11), and second place open extemporaneous speaking (Sarah Swygard).

Debate Society members were also successful in last year’s NCCFI, sweeping first and second place junior division speaker awards for parliamentary debate.

“There is great value in the debate society in practicing our communication skills as students and Christians,” said Zach Robbins ’11, president of the Debate Society. “Forensics competition with other schools allows us to hone our analytical and communication abilities as Christians. We are incredibly pleased with our performance at NCCFI and these results speak to the great caliber of well-rounded students that are a part of Covenant’s active community.”
