“Tim Keller’s ‘The Prodigal God’ is an insightful book that will challenge churchgoers, skeptics and everyone in-between to reconsider what exactly it is that Jesus taught,” said the Rev. Lenny Liebmann of Red Bank Community Church of Monmouth, NJ. “The collaboration of so many local churches across denominational lines only adds to the significance and value of this program.”
More than a dozen congregations from Red Bank to Asbury Park announced they are uniting to offer the local community a unique six-week program based on The New York Times bestseller “The Prodigal God” by Dr. Timothy Keller.
This collaborative effort is intended to give Monmouth County residents the opportunity to gain fresh insight into the core message of the Christian faith — while also getting to know their neighbors.
The book explores a prodigal son parable from Chapter 15 of the Gospel according to Luke, in which Jesus tells the story of two sons, one who kept the rules religiously, and one who broke them, and the father who loved them both. Keller’s book uses this passage to present the Gospel as a message that is neither religion nor irreligion, but something else entirely.
