What Parents Need to Know About Juuling
Juul is a popular e-cigarette system that looks a lot like a USB flash drive that consists of a long, slim vaporizer and disposable “pods” of nicotine juice.
Jack Waxman, a high school senior in New York who’s working to spread awareness about the dangers of teenage Juul usage, says he’s seen friends all go down the same path: First, they’re attracted by the “fun flavors” and enticed by the head-rush. But then, after using the Juul for a while, they feel no... Continue Reading
Federal Appeals Court Rules That Sexual Orientation is a Protected Class
The Second Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender non-conformity are prohibited under Title VII of the federal Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Currently, people who live in New York, Connecticut, Vermont, Indiana, Illinois, or Wisconsin, are prohibited by federal law from being fired because of sexual orientation, while in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida there is no such prohibition. In the other states the issue is unresolved. Because the circuit courts are split, the Supreme Court will likely... Continue Reading
Parental Rights: A Casualty of the Transgender Revolution
Who possesses authority to make prudent medical decisions in the best interest of the child? According to Judge Hendon’s ruling, the answer is the state of Ohio.
If the medical establishment deems “transitioning” in the best interest of a legal minor and the parents object on moral or religious grounds, legal precedent now exists that suggests that parental rights can be severed in the interest of countenancing transgender orthodoxy. On February 16, 2018, Ohio Judge Sylvia Sieve Hendon handed down a decision in... Continue Reading
Which Country Sends the [Second] Most Missionaries?
South Korea has sent out 27,436 missionaries in 2017, second only to the United States
This passion for cross-cultural missions is shared by Korean-American immigrant churches. It is not uncommon for the smallest of the 4,000 plus Korean-American churches to set aside a significant portion of the church’s budget for missions and proudly display the names of the supported missionaries in their weekly bulletins. My friends and I recently... Continue Reading
The 25 Best Icebreaker Questions For Team-Building At Work
The key to building trust is to ask questions that help everyone get to know each other
We put a lot of thought (over four years worth of research and fine-tuning!) into crafting get-to-know-you questions that would be as non-cheesy as possible, and elicit meaningful and memorable responses from the team. I get emails all the time from CEOs who’ll tell me, “Wow, Claire, I had no idea this question would get... Continue Reading
Why Transgenderism Threatens Parental Rights
We still have an opportunity to protect the rights of parents before the Court decides the state, rather than parents, should decide what’s best for our children
Scalia told an audience at Georgetown University Law Center there is no U.S. constitutional right of parents to direct the education and upbringing of their children. Although Scalia believes the right of parents to direct the upbringing of their children is among the “unalienable rights” mentioned in the Declaration of Independence, it is not a right necessarily... Harvard Places HCFA On ‘Probation’ After Group Barred Student in Same-Sex Relationship from Leadership
Harvard College Faith and Action was placed on “administrative probation” for a year after a female student leadership member was asked to resign after beginning to date a woman.
“Our theological view is that—for professing Christians who are in leadership—celibacy is the only option outside the bounds of marriage,” Ely and Richmond wrote. “We have applied and do apply this policy regardless of sexual orientation.” The woman, as well as four other members of HCFA, said they believe she was not asked to step... Religious Parents Lose Custody Of Transgender Teen For Refusing Hormone Treatment
A Hamilton County, Ohio, judge took a transgender teen away from her parents because they refused to allow the 17-year-old to undergo hormone treatments as part of a female-to-male transition.
Shortly after that, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital recommended the 17-year-old undergo hormone therapy at the hospital’s Transgender Health Clinic. The parents objected, citing their religious beliefs. Family services then sought to terminate the temporary custody arrangement and grant full legal custody to the grandparents. Both grandparents filed petitions for full legal custody in December. A... Continue Reading
Ready For The Job
Aid veteran Ken Isaacs faces undeserved media scorn.
Isaacs, with 35 years’ experience crafting relief programs to stem migration flows, including a stint as director of foreign disaster assistance at USAID, is a solid pick by President Donald Trump, who has come under widespread criticism for comments demeaning life in some of the countries Isaacs knows best. But State Department foes and The Washington... Continue Reading
Wheaton College Wins Five-Year Battle Against HHS Mandate
Court says federal government violated civil rights law, orders end to mandate.
This is the first district court order offering permanent protection from the HHS mandate after the Supreme Court’s 2016 decision in Zubik v. Burwell, which said that the government could not fine religious groups for following their faith and said it could find other ways to provide services to the women who want them. Yesterday’s...
